The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE) is offering TESOL Essentials: Getting Started, a 9-week online course that includes a basic introduction to English language teaching. TESOL Essentials: Getting Started is ideal for those who are:

  • Interested in teaching English throughout the world
  • Considering a career in TESOL
  • Currently teaching or tutoring learners of English

Through participation in synchronous online video sessions (90 minutes per week), and independent reading and group discussions (3-4 hours per week), you will learn essential skills for teaching English in domestic and international contexts. No prior experience in teaching TESOL or other subjects is necessary. This course is open to all educators, learners, and leaders worldwide.

This course meets once per week for online meetings. Two sections of the course will be offered in Fall 2019:

Section 1 – Tuesday Online Meetings from 7-8:30am Eastern Time
Section 2 – Saturday Online Meetings from 1pm-2:30pm Eastern Time

For more than 30 years, K-12 teachers across disciplines have explored how and why writing and literacy are critical tools for learning. This summer we will consider how primary sources can support interdisciplinary learning, challenge assumptions of a single story, and encourage reflection on how (hi)stories are told and interpreted.

When: Orientation – Saturday, June 1, 2019
Summer Institute – Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 26
9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Two follow up sessions during the school year
