As this report makes clear #HomeVisitingWorks is not just a slogan, the evidence is clear – it matters! And virtual and hybrid visiting will continue to enable us to expand our reach and meet families where they are with what they want!

Windows, Mirrors & Doors: The Joy of Math Literacy – Nov 16

Join us next week, on 11/16, for the next installment of ParentChild+’s virtual series Windows, Mirrors, & Doors, where children’s book authors, educators, and advocates will lead us in a compelling discussion on math access and inspiration in children’s literature. The discussion will focus on math literacy and will shine a light on the impact that representation in books about math concepts, diverse mathematicians, and math all around you has on the well-being and social-emotional development of children. It will highlight the importance of all children and families seeing themselves in books about math, learning about math in joyful, playful, and meaningful ways, and making it a regular part of their early learning experiences.

The main themes of this discussion will include:

How we can have rich conversations with our children about diversity and inclusion, early and often, through math books and play?
Why math literacy is especially important in children’s literature and school readiness?
How the intersection of early math and early literacy can be joyful and playful for children and adults?

At ParentChild+, we believe representation and book selection can be a powerful step toward building a stronger, more equitable world.

As we enter the school year, many parents have been asking a critical question: how can we have conversations with our children about diversity and inclusion, early and often?

For over 50 years, ParentChild+ has been working to support inclusivity, diversity, and equity by partnering with parents to build school readiness in the homes of young children and their families. By committing to provide all families with reading materials that are diverse, inclusive, and culturally relevant, we are prioritizing helping children to be rooted in their own identities and to develop a strong sense of self and understanding of others.

As part of ParentChild+’s virtual series Windows, Mirrors & Doors, we invite you to join children’s book authors and illustrators, parents, and advocates working on disability issues for a compelling discussion on disability representation in children’s literature. The discussion will shine a light on the impact representation has on the well-being and social-emotional development of children with disabilities, children with family members and friends with disabilities, and all children. It will highlight the importance for children and families of experiencing books featuring characters with disabilities, equipping parents and caregivers with the tools to engage children in reading and discussing this literature and to advocate for improvements in disability representation. At ParentChild+, we believe representation and book selection can be a powerful step toward building a stronger, more equitable world.

Putting Care Front & Center – Jul 13

Long before the pandemic hit, women disproportionately shouldered the burdens of caregiving. They watched after our elderly relatives, cared for our children, and worked in our hospitals. They did more with less, again and again. And now, as COVID cases decline and vaccination rates rise, we see that throughout the pandemic, women have been holding us together — yet again, rising up, doing double, triple shifts to support the well-being of their families and their communities.

Join us to honor the work of ParentChild+ home visiting staff, who are primarily women and have been on the front lines providing essential care to young families in their communities that have been hit the hardest over the past year — from the rise in racist attacks to the health and economic impacts of COVID-19, leaving so many without income, food or housing stability. These incredible women are not only ParentChild+’s home visiting staff, but many are program graduates as well.

On Tuesday evening, July 13, 8:00 PM, we’ll come together to hear frontline stories from these phenomenal women, watch inspiring performances and learn how investing in family care and early education is critical to unlocking pathways for women.

For over 50 years, ParentChild+ has been working to overcome systemic racism by partnering with parents to build school readiness in the homes of young children and their families. By committing to provide all families with reading materials that are diverse, inclusive, and culturally relevant, we are now prioritizing helping children to understand the importance of racial justice, be rooted in their own identity, and develop a strong sense of self and understanding of others.

As part of ParentChild+’s virtual series Windows, Mirrors & Doors, we invite you to join Asian children’s book authors and illustrators for a compelling, nationally relevant discussion on the representations of Asian characters in children’s literature.
