A press conference was held on December 19, 2023, where the city was presented with the designation and joined by KultureCity, community partners, Actor Stephen Kunken, the Philadelphia Phillies Phanatic, Philadelphia Eagle’s Swoop and residents.

Earlier this year, the Innovation Fund awarded the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities a grant to launch the city’s first-ever Sensory Inclusive Project to provide training and supportive elements to increase the awareness, understanding and available support to become a sensory inclusive city.

]]> ADA Unit: Community Feedback Virtual Sessions – Mar 15 https://phennd.org/update/ada-unit-community-feedback-virtual-sessions-mar-15/ Mon, 13 Feb 2023 21:40:54 +0000 https://phennd.org/?post_type=update&p=80937 The Mayor’s Office For People With Disabilities (MOPD) created an ADA Unit (The Americans with Disabilities Act) to address corrective actions that are low-cost or no-cost from the 2020 ADA Transition Plan.

We would appreciate community feedback from Philadelphia residents about accessibility in their respective neighborhoods by attending 4 virtual Zoom sessions from March 2023 through June 2023 with MOPD and the vendor.

Please complete the interest form no later than March 15th.  If you require a reasonable accommodation to submit this form, please email Adrienne.Ewing@phila.gov or call (267) 480-9926.  Individuals will be notified by March 17th with the Zoom links.

Join the Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities!

Philadelphia values and promotes diversity and the contributions of the disability community. The City benefits from rich and varied perspectives. Key activities of the volunteer Commission include advising the Kenney administration on ways to increase disability community access to government resources and sharing information with various disability communities about relevant government efforts.

Other functions include assisting the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) in bringing vital disability community needs to the attention of all relevant city agencies and helping those agencies to develop plans addressing those needs. The commission also connects regularly with disability organizations and individuals outside the Commission or city government.  This is a volunteer position for individuals and not an organizational seat.

Applications will be accepted until April 30, 2022.

This year’s theme is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”  On December 3rd and everyday, may we all continue to ensure the City of Philadelphia is inclusive to people of all abilities!
