The programs connect low-income families to trained professionals like nurses and social workers who help parents acquire the skills they need to promote their children’s development.

An Investment in Our Future: How Federal Home Visiting Funding Provides Critical Support for Parents and Children, from the Center on Law and Social Policy and the Center for American Progress, argues that MIECHV grantees have been widely successful in providing services to high-risk children and families, building program infrastructure, and collaborating with other organizations and state agencies.

Home Visiting Programs: An Early Test for the 114th Congress, from the Brookings Institution, gives five arguments for maintaining federal support for home visiting. The report notes, however, that federal funding for MIECHV programs will expire this year, and it is unclear whether Congress will authorize more funding.
