Selected participants will receive a stipend and materials for use in the classroom. The ISP will work with the participants through the 2018-2018 academic year as the protocols/techniques are transferred into the classrooms.

We will be selecting 8 to 10 participants for this workshop.

The application link is below (Google Form) and the cycle will close June 11th.

Please share this link with science teachers that you feel would contribute to the ISP and benefit from this workshop.

Focus group: High school; Biology (any level)

Others also considered: Health-related, STEM, and middle school life-science

Project focus: Dietary effects on development in fruit flies. We will use various techniques, including observation of wing vein development, to screen supplements against genes in cancer signalling pathways. Cell division/apoptosis, transduction pathways, and cancer will be discussed.

Practical: On day 5, participants will engage a mock-class (of former ISP graduates) in a hands-on activity to gain insight on how to bring the project into their classrooms.

Below you will find the Google links for the application and the recommendation packet. All materials are due by October 30, 2017.

Attached above are hard copies of the application and recommendation packets. The Google Form will NOT allow students to save work-in-progress (this is a google thing…not an ISP rule) so you may recommend that they print it to write out their answers first, then transcribe everything in one sitting onto the Google form. Edits can be submitted, but Google Form makes you start from the beginning. The good news is only the most up-to-date version will be submitted for review.

If you have ANY questions please contact me.

I thank you to share this information with students, colleagues, and anyone that knows a 16+ year old, high school student, interest in learning more about STEM careers, especially those surrounding cancer research and the implications of diet on cancer signaling pathways.
