Visitor Services staff are responsible for creating a positive and engaging experience for each and every visitor to the penitentiary. Responsibilities include welcoming and orienting visitors when they arrive at the historic site, selling admission, working in the museum store, and promoting the membership program. Our Facilities Technicians are responsible for ensuring that all areas of the facility are neat and clean, including outdoor spaces, restrooms and offices, and for creating a positive and engaging experience for each and every visitor. Facilities Technicians must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work independently.

The primary responsibilities of the Staff Accountant include weekly and monthly accounting functions such as accounts payable and receivable, cash management, payroll processing, human resource management and remitting the monthly sales tax to the State of PA.

Additional responsibilities may include resolving vendor issues and performing maintenance and creation of various supporting schedules. The Staff Accountant will also provide support to the senior staff as requested and complete special projects involving financial analysis and interpretation as assigned by the Controller. Duties may be reassigned as needs arise.

This position assists with the day-to-day operations of the group and event sales program (for both the daytime prison tour and Night Tours programs and the annual Halloween fundraiser — Halloween Nights) and also provides guest support for individuals and administrative assistance for the office staff.

Responsibilities include corresponding with group planners, confirming bookings, coordinating payments and post-tour follow up, providing receipts and asking for feedback and assisting with the sales of facility rentals and film and photo shoots. This position assists group and individual Halloween Nights guests with exchanges, reissuing tickets, customer support questions and reviewing chargeback claims by phone and email. During Halloween Nights, office hours will shift from daytime Monday-Friday to include some nights and weekends.

Other responsibilities include maintaining the organization’s master calendar, ordering, organizing and maintaining an inventory of office supplies, coordinating maintenance for the organization’s printers and office equipment, managing the in-kind donation program, and assisting with events as needed including the receiving of deliveries and purchasing supplies. This position performs active outreach to prospective clients, maintains and updates contact lists and databases, and, occasionally, makes trips to retail stores/outlets to purchase supplies when needed.

Educators lead tours that deepen the dialogue about American criminal justice reform, from the founding of the penitentiary through to the present day. Educator-led programming includes virtual and in-person tours, brief behind-the-scenes experiences and staffing frontline positions working directly with the historic site’s broad, general interest audience. At busy times of year, Educators can lead several tours a day.
