As the 2015-2016 academic school year comes to a close, we here at CORE wanted to make sure that all of your respective graduating HS students and current college students were aware of our funding opportunity to receive a scholarship match for their own savings under the now 4-year old CORE RISE IDA Scholarship Program (RISE: Reaching Independence by Saving for Education).

Under the guidelines, eligible students and parents must have household income within 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, and must save $500 over 6 separate monthly payments in exchange for a $2000-4000 scholarship payable to a 2 or 4-year college or vocational school of their choice.

In this final year of our 5-year grant, any students who apply will receive an application fee waiver ($25 value) and if eligible, will also be able to earn $255 of the mandatory $500 in savings required in order to receive the RISE scholarship by meeting up to three additional program requirements.

If the student or parent does NOT have earned income, CORE CAN HELP. We will apply up to $250 to make up three of the 6 required deposits to tap $500 in order to receive the scholarship, as “payment” for the work students complete to prepare themselves for college, including:

1. submit an up-to-date resume suitable for use with applying to jobs online;
2. submit evidence of completing either 8 ADDITIONAL hours of financial literacy (either through an in school or after school college prep program or online)
3. submit a 250-word essay on your definition of success and how you have achieved it in your own life.

For each of these ADDITIONAL criteria completed by eligible student applicants, CORE will make a $85 deposit to the student saving account, totaling up to $255.00.

This means that eligible students can receive $2000-4000 additional scholarship dollars to help pay for college by simply saving $245 if they complete these three additional criteria.

Please direct any interested applicants to the following online application link: https://core.fluidreview.com.

CORE Scholars will host its 12th Annual College Sendoff Scholarship Conference for over 400 recent Philadelphia high school
graduates. Founded in 2003, CORE (College Opportunity Resources for Education) was created as a public-private partnership between the Philadelphia School District, and city, state, and federal legislators to support college access and retention scholarship for Philadelphia youth. The Conference is an annual event designed to help our Promise scholarship awardees with transitional, empowering information to help adjust to the college-going culture of postsecondary academic success. Annually, Promise scholars receive tuition support for attendance at any of the Promise network colleges, including all Pennsylvania State and state-sponsored universities.

WHERE: The Conference will be held at the Student Activities Center at Temple University, located at 1755 N. 13th St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19122.

WHEN: July 31, 2015.
We need your support to make our conference a memorable experience for Promise Scholars!

The annual conference includes:
• Navigating your college’s career and financial aid resources
• Building “Brand U” – building your professional profile from day one.
• Awarding of Promise Scholarship Certificates
• “Freshmen Essentials” gift bags to kick off their college experience.
• Free lunch!

We are looking for volunteer panelists to speak to our students about transitioning to college, as well as financial and gift donations to help cover the cost of the location and scholar’s lunches, and fill our scholars’ gift bags with useful college-related materials.

If you are able to volunteer or donate, please contact Amber Jones at ajones@corescholars.org, or via phone at (215) 218-4374
