The Academic Mentor will work with dual enrollment students in various settings, including virtually and on the College’s campus. This role supports students’ integration into the college community by leading academic and student success workshops; connecting students to academic and socio-emotional support services; and serving as their main point of contact for students.

This is a grant-funded temporary, part-time position ending June 30, 2027.

This position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week between the hours of 8:00am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday (Monday through Thursday in May, June, July). The duration of the position is April 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027. This is an hourly position.

]]> Grant, partnerships bridge digital divide in West Philadelphia communities https://phennd.org/update/grant-partnerships-bridge-digital-divide-in-west-philadelphia-communities/ Thu, 02 Oct 2025 20:29:56 +0000 https://phennd.org/?post_type=update&p=86730 Community College of Philadelphia was awarded a $2,948,610 grant by the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which is funding 100 percent of the West Philadelphia NTIA Network program. The initiative will provide free laptops and high-speed internet access to eligible residents. The program aims to increase broadband wireless infrastructure, expand access to community-based broadband services and equipment, and provide vital digital literacy education. In the Philadelphia area, partners in this transformative initiative include Community College of Philadelphia, PCs for People, Wilco, BlocPower, Mission First Housing, Horizon House, University Place Associates, and the City of Philadelphia.

What This Means for West Philadelphia Residents:

Eligible residents in Haddington, Walnut Hill, Haverford North, West Powelton, and University City can receive free high-speed internet for two years, along with a free or low-cost laptop, modem, and digital literacy training. This initiative goes beyond simply providing access; it empowers residents to take control of their futures through education and career development.

The Student Success Navigator will work with the entire Catto Scholarship team, Enrollment Management, Educational Support Services, and other areas at the College to successfully take students from the admissions process through orientation and bridge programming, providing a broad range of guided supports and services to scholarship recipients. This includes, but not limited to, ensuring Catto Scholars meet all eligibility requirements for a seamless onboarding experience; helping students identify potential barriers to success and connecting them to supports and resources at the outset; connecting all students to their respective Catto Student Success Coach and working with students throughout their time at the College to ensure they are fully prepared—academically, personally, and professionally—for their next step, whether transferring to a four- year institution or entering the workforce.

The primary focus of the Student Success Navigator will be recruiting and supporting students interested in pursuing careers in education (i.e., future teachers).

Join us to gain firsthand knowledge about the United States Constitution, the court system, and criminal and civil cases from judges and lawyers from your community. Workshop topics include immigration law, Freedom of Speech, police stops and arrests, and “DEI” in the workplace. These sessions will help you make the best decisions for your family and community.

This six-week workshop series concludes with a complimentary tour of the United States Courthouse and special Q&A session.

The first 50 registrants who attend the first session will receive a free copy of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s book, The Majesty of the Law.

Those who attend five out of the six sessions will receive a certificate of completion.

All six workshop sessions will be held on Main Campus in the Center for Business and Industry (CBI), Room C2-28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The complimentary tour will be held offsite with participants meeting at the courthouse.

The conference is designed to engage and educate students about their opportunities for success through higher education, professional training and mentorship.  This day of engaging programming will provide a positive and supportive space for participants to learn and share ideas.

The conference theme pays tribute to Octavius V. Catto, the Philadelphia civil rights leader, voting rights advocate, educator and veteran who was killed in 1871 on Election Day, and the namesake of the College’s Octavius Catto Scholarship.

Call for Proposals:

If you or someone you know may be interested in presenting an in-person session at the conference, please submit a proposal by July 31, 2025. Proposals should relate to one or more of three program topics, including communities, schools and workplaces; politics; and homelife.

The Executive Director, Career Advanced Technology Center is the administrative leader responsible for center operations, including programming and services to ensure student, community and employee needs are met. Reporting to the President, this position will lead the College’s initiative to develop and run a Career Advanced Technology Center (CATC). The CATC is intended to support the talent pipeline needs of local industry and provide workforce solutions to area manufacturers. This position is responsible for developing, leading, and coordinating the launch of the CATC by working collaboratively with college and division leadership and program faculty. Additionally, the Executive Director will serve as a liaison to industry partners and external stakeholders, monitor program and project outcomes, and supervise ongoing operations of the CATC. In support of center operations, the Executive Director is responsible for the development of consistent processes and application of policy that align with the College’s administrative practices, and represents the center as a college spokesperson.

In addition to providing administrative oversight of the College’s participation and leadership of the Collegiate Consortium, the Associate Provost provides direct supervision of all faculty and staff in the areas of Workforce Development including Corporate Solutions, Business Development and Contract Training.

The Associate Provost for Workforce Development will foster collaboration with credit and noncredit faculty, academic deans, Student Development staff and external communities to advance the institution’s mission of providing an uncompromising focus on student success. The Associate Provost for Workforce Development will work with the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs to create and oversee the implementation of proven best practices for workforce programming development with local regional and national partners. By focusing on enrollment, assessment and retention data, the Associate Provost will work with all areas under Academic and Student Success to help workforce students realize their dreams to include skill development and job placement. The Associate Provost for Workforce Development will grow and expand the CCP workforce brand, promoting the excellence of our training offerings and workforce programming, and fulfilling the industry needs in the Philadelphia market.
