Climate, Jobs, and Justice: Our Moral Response to the Pope’s Urgent Message
Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 5:30 PM
1501 Cherry St, Philadelphia, PA

Please join us for a forum and vigil to lift up Pope Francis’s urgent call for climate action and economic justice!

5:30pm — Gathering, refreshments and forum at Friends Center
7:30pm — Short procession to Love Park with vigil, speeches, and prayer

In June, Pope Francis published an urgent letter to people across the world: “On Care for Our Common Home.”

http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html

The letter urges people everywhere to take decisive action to preserve a livable climate and to build a just economy. His message is sparking discussion and action all over the planet, bringing new energy to the growing movement for climate justice. The Pope will bring this message to Congress and the United Nations when he visits the US.

As Philly prepares for his arrival, hundreds of people from all backgrounds will come together for a teach-in, procession, and vigil. We will reflect on what the Pope’s message means to us here in Philly. And we will call on our elected officials to commit to a rapid shift to a just and sustainable economy, with 100% renewable energy, clean air, living wage jobs, and justice for those who are harmed most by climate change.

What to Expect:

Compelling calls to action from faith, community, and labor leaders

Presentations by experts in health, clean jobs, and the components of a Just Transition

To make friends with your neighbors who also care about community, people, and planet

Big, beautiful art

Co-sponsored by: 350 Philly; Green Justice Philly; Pennsylvania Interfaith Power & Light — Philadelphia Chapter; Physicians for Social Responsibility-Philadelphia; Shalom Center; Sierra Club Southeast PA Beyond Coal Campaign; Clean Water Action.
