At the Temple University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), we envision a world where all people have access to an outstanding education.

Our mission is to educate, support and prepare learners and leaders to advance equitable systems and practices in schools and communities. Through research, teaching, service and community partnerships, we create positive change in the city of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth and beyond.

CEHD is searching for a Vice Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement. The Vice Dean will act as a strategic advisor to the dean and will assist with prioritizing special projects and issues that require the dean’s attention and ensure their efficient execution in alignment with CEHD’s objectives. This role is critical in preparing the dean for meetings, speaking opportunities and events and is tasked with ensuring that all necessary connections and follow-ups are conducted. The Vice Dean will lead high priority requests for the dean, and oversee the development of events, speeches, memos, and communication materials consistent with CEHD’s messaging and advancement strategies. As a member of the dean’s leadership team the Vice Dean will work with departments, centers and CEHD senior staff to identify and develop new programing, ensuring that the business models are sustainable across multi-year budgets.

The Vice Dean will act as a liaison with constituents internal and external to the university including central administration, policymakers, civic leaders and community-based advisory boards to advance collective education advocacy and engagement, ensure the dean is well informed on current events and outcomes for decisions and effectively continue to cultivate those relationships.

The Fall PHENND Meeting is a chance for the entire PHENND Network to get together to share ideas, events, challenges, etc. It is also a time to hear from PHENND staff about their activities and opportunities for partnership in the coming academic year.

Additionally, the event will focus on Civic Partnerships for Sustainable Communities. We will explore partnerships for environmental sustainability, particularly those with the involvement of municipal government.

The Chester County Community Foundation in West Chester, Pennsylvania, aims to connect caring people with causes that matter, so their philanthropy makes a difference now and forever.

Nonprofits are urged to submit one grant proposal annually, which will be shared with the grants committee and made available to each of the foundation’s separate donor-advised funds. Proposals submitted by nonprofits are considered for two types of grants:

Field of Interest & Donor Advised Funds: Grants will be awarded to charitable nonprofits working in all fields of interest (i.e. arts, culture, and humanities; education; community improvement; environment; religion; health; and human services). Grants focus on Chester County causes and issues but are not limited to the county. General operating grants are encouraged. Nonprofits should be specific about their mission, goals, and measurable outcomes. Proposals can be submitted throughout the year.

Fund for Chester County Capacity Building Grants: The goal of capacity building grants is to strengthen the effectiveness of organizations serving the region. For eligibility in this grant program, nonprofits must be located in and serve Chester County. Nonprofits budgets must be $500,000 or less. There is a deadline for this category of September 10, 2025.

Preference is given to small and midsize nonprofits located in and serving Chester County, which strengthen the social, cultural, health, educational and/or economic character of a community.

To be eligible, applicants must be charitable, tax-exempt organizations with 501(c)(3) certification.

Deadline: September 10, 2025 (Capacity building grants)

The Westlake Village, California-based Open Hearts Foundation aims to empower people who turn adversity into possibility.

The foundation invites applications for its grants cycle. Grants will be awarded in the following focus area: arts-based mental health and healing initiatives for vulnerable populations, highlighting the therapeutic power of creative expression across visual, performing, or literary arts.

In alignment with the Open Hearts Philosophy, the foundation seeks to fund nonprofits founded by an individual or small group of volunteers who have faced adversity and are turning that adversity into possibility by helping others through their work. Priority will be given to nonprofits with an annual budget of $1 million or less. The foundation will consider nonprofits with a larger budget who are beginning a new initiative that meets a new need within their communities.

For the remainder of 2025, the foundation has two grant funding cycles. For this cycle, it aims to award between $100,000 and $150,000 in funding. Grants will range between $15,000 and $25,000 per nonprofit on an annual basis.

The foundation funds 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations directly serving communities in the United States.

Letters of intent are due August 15, 2025. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal, due August 21, 2025.

Our discussion will be facilitated by Stacy Priniski, Ph.D., assistant research professor with an appointment at The Hope Center, Temple University. Potential topics of discussion might include our own campus initiatives, expanding the basic needs ecosystem on campuses, ways the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) can better support your work in this area, and other topics participants bring to the table.

In this Zoom meeting, CUMU members will connect with others from our network, share what they are doing on their own campuses, and collect useful resources in a shared Google doc that attendees can take with them as a resource.

At the core of the toolkit is the Interactive Declaration of Independence, featuring scholarly analysis of the Declaration’s text, historical significance, and modern relevance, along with engaging videos and biographies of members of the founding generation.

The America at 250 Civic Toolkit and Interactive Declaration will launch on Constitution Day, September 17.

• Scholar Exchanges give middle and high school students the opportunity to discuss constitutional topics with a lawyer, judge, or constitutional scholars and alongside peers from around the country.
• Civic Stories provide elementary and middle school students opportunities to engage with the past through civic artifacts and the stories they tell.
• Live from the Museum brings intermediate learners through live virtual tours, workshops, and demonstrations that feature some of your favorite historical figures and events.

Programs will honor both revolutionary documents, including a lively reading of the Constitution’s Preamble, a moving naturalization ceremony, special conversations with favorite revolutionary figures, educational activities and workshops, hand-on arts and crafts, and more. The Office of Sustainability (OOS) communicates with and collaborates across several divisions to create a more resilient, climate-prepared, and energy-efficient Philadelphia. This may look like creating a flood resilience strategy with Eastwick residents, or a Municipal Energy Master Plan to reduce energy use and clean the energy supply.

The Climate Resilience Division focuses on supporting community resilience when dealing with increasing climate change-related risks. In Philadelphia, common risks include flooding and extreme heat. The Climate Resilience Division is updating the City’s Climate Resilience Plan by updating climate projections, assessing community vulnerability, and using those projections as guidance for resilience strategies. A public survey is also available in seven different languages to inform the new plan.
