Established in 1994, the Nasdaq Foundation works to connect business, capital, and innovative ideas to advance global economies and local communities to champion greater access in investor engagement. Driven by Nasdaq’s purpose to advance economic progress for all, the Nasdaq Foundation works with organizations that promote and support under-resourced communities by reimagining investor engagement and equipping communities with the financial knowledge needed to share in the wealth that markets create.

The foundation invites applications to its quarterly grant program. The foundation will award funding in the following focus areas:

1) Empower organizations that equip under-resourced communities with the financial knowledge and confidence they need to share in the wealth that markets can create. Grants will be given in this area to organizations and programs that deliver impact in one or more of the following ways: enhancing financial literacy among under-resourced communities, with an element of teaching participants how to invest in the capital markets; and improving access to knowledge and tools for investing and wealth creation among under-resourced communities

2) Support entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities with the resources to strengthen and scale those businesses and contribute to the prosperity of society. Grants will be given in this area to organizations and programs that deliver impact in one or more of the following ways: equip under-resourced founders with mentoring and resources, and improve access to capital for under-resourced founders.

While there is no set minimum or maximum grant amount, the average size of a grant made by the foundation is $75,000.

Eligible applicants include tax-exempt organizations as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and for-profit businesses or consultants acting on behalf of a qualified tax-exempt entity. If a grant is awarded, a representative of the tax-exempt entity must sign the grant agreement, and the grant will be paid to the tax-exempt entity.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Nasdaq Foundation website.

Young people’s lack of trust in institutions is one of the major challenges to maintaining or strengthening their connection to democracy. It can also be an opportunity: as threats to democratic institutions and values build in the U.S. and around the world, it is vital to outline strategies that can reignite young people’s connections to institutions and understanding of their civic power ahead of the 2026 elections and beyond. CIRCLE’s (Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement) new data on youth trust in institutions paints a complicated picture of youth distrust, how it relates to civic action, and what we can learn from it to inform future efforts.

CIRCLE’s recent report, How Does Gen Z Really Feel About Democracy?, published in partnership with the nonpartisan nonprofit Protect Democracy, highlighted the precarious relationship between trust in institutions and young people’s civic development. One major finding: the most civically engaged young people, who we say show a Hostile Dissatisfaction toward democracy, tend to be less trusting of institutions. This aligns with past CIRCLE research, that highlights a connection between young people who are paying attention to and engaging with institutions and a certain degree of cynicism and disillusionment. Our research also found that only 16% of 18- to 29-year-olds believe democracy is working well for young people.

A new statewide poll commissioned by PA Schools Work reveals overwhelming support across party lines for increased investment in Pennsylvania’s public schools, with particularly notable backing from Republican voters.

The recent survey, conducted by Seven Letter Insight, the firm used by nationally recognized polling expert Frank Luntz, found that nearly seven out of ten Republican voters in Pennsylvania believe the state should increase funding for public education, challenging the notion that education funding is a partisan issue.

“These findings clearly demonstrate that support for our public schools transcends political divides,” said Donna Cooper, Executive Director of Children First, a PA Schools Work partner organization. “A strong majority of Republican voters believe the current level of state funding for public education is insufficient, confirming that Pennsylvania voters from all political backgrounds recognize that investing in our students is investing in our future.”

Key findings from the poll include:

Nearly three-quarters of Republican voters (72%) agreed that “adequately funded public schools are essential for economic growth and development in Pennsylvania communities,” with 77% agreeing that well-funded schools are essential for workforce development.

Two-thirds of Republican voters (63%) support increasing state funding to reduce the burden on local property taxpayers.

A strong majority (58%) of Republican voters believe that “state funding should address inequities between wealthy and under-resourced districts.”

The poll revealed several additional insights about Republican voters’ attitudes toward public education funding in Pennsylvania:

More than two-thirds of Republican voters (68%) support increasing teacher salaries to attract and retain quality educators.

Seven out of ten Republican voters (71%) believe that adequately funded schools lead to stronger property values in their communities.

Three-quarters of Republican voters (74%) support increased funding for special education services.

“What we’re seeing is that Republican voters, like voters across the political spectrum, understand the value of strong public schools in their communities,” said Cooper. “They recognize that education funding isn’t about politics – it’s about providing opportunities for Pennsylvania’s children and strengthening local economies. And overwhelmingly, these voters believe that state funding should address inequities between wealthy and under-resourced districts.

The poll comes as Pennsylvania lawmakers debate education funding priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. PA Schools Work advocates hope these findings will encourage bipartisan cooperation on education funding issues.

“This data sends a clear message to legislators on both sides of the aisle: your constituents, regardless of party affiliation, want to see more investment in our public schools,” added Marc Stier, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Policy Center, a PA School Work partner organization. “We urge our elected officials to heed this call and work together to ensure all Pennsylvania students have access to the quality education they deserve.”
