The Environmental Justice Data Fund (EJDF) is open for a second round of grantmaking. Created and seeded by Google.org and supported by a $4 million fund, EJDF aims to help historically underserved frontline communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental injustice in the United States use data to address environmental hazards, with special attention to matters regarding air and water quality.

The fund will help eligible organizations unlock resources, increase their access to federal infrastructure funding, and advocate for new policies that empower communities to address past environmental harm and pave the way to a more sustainable, climate-resilient future. The latest round of grantmaking was based on insights from the 2022 grantmaking cycle, which demonstrated a high need in the field to address environmental hazards, especially related to air and water quality. The fund remains dedicated to the principle that supporting data work will help advance justice and build power within local communities.

Organizations must serve frontline communities that have been historically underserved and disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental injustice; aim to create a local social and/or environmental impact as defined by the applicant; center the perspectives of the communities being served via representation in project leadership and/or community participation, with a preference for community-driven decision-making; and be committed to environmental justice and possess a track record of environmental justice work.

The fund expects to make two to four grants of $500,000 and six to eight grants of $250,000.

To be eligible, applicants must be located in the United States (this includes all states, the federal district, territories, and outlying islands) and meet at least one of the following requirements: have 501(c)(3) legal status; be fiscally sponsored by an organization with 501(c)(3) legal status; be a fiscal sponsor with 501(c)(3) legal status applying on behalf of a project; or be a federally recognized Indian tribe, or organized under Section 17 of the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934.

The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) is committed to supporting diverse communicators’ agency, power, and potential inside and outside of postsecondary classrooms.

The CCCC invites proposals for its Research Initiative, which seeks to advance the organization’s mission to advocate for broad and evolving definitions of literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing (including multimodal discourse, digital communication, and diverse language practices) that emphasize the value of these activities to empower individuals and communities.

Through the program, grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded to support proposals to investigate key challenges faced by literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing instructors and administrators in their classrooms and programs. The initiative also asks recipients to address the impact their research might have on these conversations, conveying the implications of their work in at least two final products: one that is addressed to a scholarly audience of researchers and teachers in the field and one that is addressed to a specifically identified more public audience.

Proposals may employ diverse perspectives, genres, registers, and methodologies.

Particular topics identified by CCCC include research that produces knowledge about language, literacy, communication, rhetoric, and the teaching, assessment, and technologies of writing at the postsecondary level and beyond; social, racial, and linguistic justice and counterstory as research method and genre in approaches to instruction in rhetoric, language, and literacy; writing in organizations, communities, and/or cultures; transfer of writing ability across contexts; disciplinarity of writing studies and composition, including critical praxis of the discipline’s growth, development of teachers or researchers, and professionalization or mentoring of undergraduate or graduate students joining the discipline; historiography; assessment of writing and literacy; development of writers or writing abilities; and material and working conditions for writing instruction and their influence on teaching and learning.

To be eligible, principal investigators must be members of CCCC at the time of submission.

The Sarah Ralston Foundation supports and enhances the quality of life of vulnerable and underserved older adults residing in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

The foundation invites applications for its Innovative Project Support program, which will award grants of between $25,000 and $125,000 per year for up to three years for projects serving vulnerable and underserved older adults in the county.

Innovative project support develops, extends, tests, and evaluates approaches to what sometimes seem to be intractable challenges, and innovative initiatives should be more effective than, and should ultimately displace, prevailing approaches. Examples include but are not limited to projects intended to discover new and better ways of solving pervasive problems that impact older adults; seemingly small interventions that, when scaled, can have a significant impact on addressing a big problem; and organizations and projects led by entrepreneurial leadership teams who are skilled at testing new ideas.

Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) public charities, fiscally sponsored organizations or programs, supporting organizations, and other 501(c) organizations (within legal limits).

As political misinformation and disinformation intensify online, civic organizations are tackling media illiteracy among young people ahead of the November presidential election. A Deloitte survey found that over half of Gen Z teens get their news from social media, and a poll last year found that 60% of 13- to 17-year-olds are likely to believe conspiracy theories online. This means young and first-time voters are especially vulnerable to election misinformation.

Organizations like YVote are working to equip Gen Z with the skills to differentiate between what’s real and what’s fake online.

YVote was founded in New York City in 2017 out of concern for low youth voter turnout in the 2016 presidential election, when only 46% of 18- to 29-year-olds nationwide cast a ballot. The organization is youth-centered and youth-led, with a core team of six that includes two high schoolers. The main facilitator is Mukilan Muthukumar, a senior at Hunter College High School. Since its launch, the organization has worked with over 1,500 students across 70 schools.

This entry-level position is focused on the recruitment and yield of undergraduate students,
