Adapting to changing demands, in the latter half of the 20th century, funds have been distributed to organizations for all types of heating fuel, including oil, gas and electricity; for preventative or self-help measures such as weatherization and insulation; for educational programs to assist individuals to reduce their energy use and burden; and for energy efficiency improvements. The Grandom Institution has also supported heating costs and energy efficiency improvements to emergency shelters and transitional housing facilities in both Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.

PRIORITIES OF THE GRANDOM INSTITUTION

Climate change is well underway and has a disproportionate impact on the poor and elderly. When evaluating grant requests from organizations, the Grandom Distribution Committee places a priority on clean, affordable energy solutions. These solutions are intended to increase self-sufficiency and reduce energy burden permanently.

Examples of the types of projects that meet this priority include:

• Self-help weatherization workshops including the distribution of materials for low-income households
• Energy efficiency improvements
• Decarbonization projects such as replacing fossil fuel heating systems with electric heat pumps. Decarbonization projects are those that replace fossil fuel end uses, e.g. fuel oil or gas, with clean energy such as electricity or solar
• Solar energy installations

The mission of the WITH Foundation is to promote the establishment of comprehensive health care for adults with developmental disabilities designed to address their unique and fundamental needs.

To that end, the foundation awards grants (usually between $30,000 and $50,000) in support of programs that improve the delivery of health care to adults with developmental disabilities and include at least one of the following: improving health practitioner competency through education and/or training programs; addressing the current inadequate reimbursement systems; advancing innovations in formal care coordination; enhancing advocacy regarding the inadequacies of developmentally disabled care to advance systemic change; increasing understanding of supported decision making in healthcare settings; promoting national efforts in digital health that support designers and developers to include the perspectives/experiences of the IDD community within the design process, to create better technology for all; social policy research; and identifying and overcoming barriers to high-quality healthcare access.

Applicants must have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. While San Francisco Bay Area applications may be given preferential consideration, applications from other areas in the United States are not excluded.

Letters of intent are due April 14, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. PT, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal due June 5, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. PT.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund serves and strengthens society by nurturing a diverse group of leaders in biomedical sciences to improve human health through education and powering discovery in frontiers of greatest need.

The fund invites applications for its Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants program, which aims to stimulate the growth of new connections between scholars working in largely disconnected fields who could together change the course of climate change’s impact on human health. Small, early-stage grants of between $2,500 and $50,000 will be awarded through the program.

BWF is mainly but not exclusively interested in activities that build connections between basic/early biomedical scientific approaches and ecological, environmental, geological, geographic, and planetary-scale thinking, as well as population-focused fields, including epidemiology, public health, demography, economics, and urban planning. Also of interest is work piloting new approaches or interactions toward reducing the impact of health-centered activities, such as developing more sustainable systems for health care, care delivery, and biomedical research systems. Another area of interest is preparation for the impacts of extreme weather and other crises that can drive large-scale disruptions that immediately impact human health and healthcare delivery. Public outreach, climate communication, and education efforts focused on the intersection of climate and health are also appropriate for this call.

Applicants must be nonprofit organizations or degree-granting institutions in the United States or Canada.

The Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment invites nominations for the Anthony Prize, which will provide a $1,000 cash award in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of grassroots environmental activism during the previous year. Activities must serve California but may be local, regional, or statewide in scope. The prize recognizes outstanding personal or volunteer-based conservation and environmental justice achievements rather than professionally based environmentalism.

The prize money must be awarded to an organization, not an individual; individual winners must designate a grassroots environmental organization to receive the prize money.

Both individuals and small organizations are eligible for nomination. Self-nominations are allowed. Organizational nominees must have an annual budget below $100,000 annually; individual nominees must be volunteers.

The Impact Fund provides grants to advance social justice in the United States.

To that end, grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to nonprofit legal service providers, private attorneys, and/or small law firms seeking to advance justice in civil rights, human rights, anti-poverty, and environmental justice cases that impact marginalized groups. Most grants are for class actions, but the fund also funds multi-plaintiff and environmental justice cases that aim to significantly affect a larger system or lead to significant law reform.

Impact Fund grants may be used for out-of-pocket litigation expenses such as expert fees and discovery costs but may not be used for attorney’s fees, staff, or other overhead.

Letters of interest must be received no later than April 11, 2023, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application due May 9, 2023.

Imagine Learning Foundation (ILF), the philanthropic initiative founded by Imagine Learning, a provider of digital curriculum solutions in the United States, invites applications for its 2023 funding cycle.

According to the foundation, schools are better able to develop healthy and supportive learning environments when activities centered on the well-being of learners are extended from classrooms into homes and communities. The Imagine Learning Foundation aims to bridge connections between classroom learning and positive learning environments outside the classroom by promoting and expanding access to these programs at home and in the community.

In 2023, the foundation will award up to $300,000 or more to organizations dedicated to supporting the well-being of students outside the classroom, with anticipated grant awards in the range of $50,000 to $100,000.

In 2022, we had a lot to celebrate and be grateful for at ALL IN! Congratulations to our campuses, partners, and students for helping to achieve the second-highest youth voter turnout in the past 30 years in the midterm elections.

In the six years since ALL IN was founded, we’ve grown from two staff members to a team of five full-time staff and seven faculty/staff fellows who support cohorts of campuses within our Communities of Practice. We launched ALL IN with just a handful of campuses in 2016, and now we support nearly 1,000 colleges and universities across all 50 states and DC, representing 9.8 million students.

This report illustrates the impact of our collective efforts toward a stronger, more inclusive democracy. We’re excited to share what we accomplished together in 2022 and look forward to a bright 2023!

Through establishing the K-16 Partnerships Network at PHENND, he hoped to bring that philosophy to the world of university-school partnerships. The Lindy Award seeks to honor partnerships that focus on meeting articulated school and community needs and that have goals for long-term commitment. At the 2023 K-16 Partnerships Network June Institute, a total of $4,000 will be awarded to selected K-16 Partnerships to enhance the mission and vision of the partnership (e.g., partner meetings, collaborative technologies, trainings, celebrations, outreach).

Eligibility Requirements

Organizations must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible:

• Must be located in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, or Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania or Burlington, Gloucester, Camden and Atlantic Counties in New Jersey.

• Current or past (5 years) administrator (e.g., principal, assistant principal, superintendent, ets.) working in K-12 education

What you’ll be doing:

• 60-90 minute audio recorded interview on Zoom
• Answering questions on your role and social justice ethos, school and district climate, relationship building

While we know that educational administrators play a significant role in school functioning and student learning, we know less about their intentionality around social justice and educational equity within school settings. Even more, few research studies specifically focus on Black administrative leaders’ role in promoting equity and justice in the education of Black youth.

Social Justice in Our Schools seeks to identify and describe how these Black administrators’ efforts to support a social justice ethos inform school practices and policies. Social justice ethos in this context refers to an acknowledgment of the marginalization experienced because of one’s race, class, and/or gender identity, as well as action toward eliminating this marginalization. The pilot study will consist of individual interviews with Black administrators working in K-12 school systems across the U.S to explore what factors contribute to Black educational administrators’ beliefs about the use and importance of a social justice lens within their work. These interviews will focus on several topics including the administrators’ leadership role, their relationship building practices with teachers, parents, and students, and their school and district’s social justice ethos and climate.
