However, the importance of ex-situ work (genetic analysis, workshops, ex situ populations, etc.) is also recognized; therefore, a few grants may be given to projects that focus on ex situ conservation work in certain circumstances.

Cooking and eating are educational acts and provide opportunities to learn math, science, languages, history and so much more. Using cooking as the vehicle for learning, the Culinary Literacy Center advances literacy through food and cooking around a communal table.

Opened in 2014, the Culinary Literacy Center is the first space of its kind in a public library and serves as a model for libraries worldwide. The Culinary Literacy Center is based in our kitchen classroom at Parkway Central, but we offer programming at nearly all of our neighborhood libraries. Culinary Literacy Center programs teach healthy cooking, build community, and promote civic dialogue.

Every month, we host over 30 programs throughout the city. Register for an event and you might see:

Your favorite cookbook authors or local chefs demonstrating how to make a signature dish.

An immigrant-led cooking class, showcasing the diversity of tastes and cultures in Philadelphia.

A class of third graders experimenting with new foods and cooking a meal from scratch.

English-language learners practicing new words while making a new dish–and new friends.

A registered dietician showing how to build a healthy lifestyle, starting in the kitchen.

The Andrew Goodman Foundation was established in memory of Andrew Goodman, a civil rights worker who was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan, alongside activists James Earl Chaney and Michael Schwerner, for registering Black Americans to vote in Mississippi’s Freedom Summer.

We believe that the movement of young people that propelled Freedom Summer did not end in 1964, but continues on today and will tomorrow through the spirit of young people who persistently fight for equitable voting rights. Young people have always been and will always be the changemakers who push us forward toward a just and inclusive democracy.

The New Earth Foundation was founded in 1997 by John Bigelow Loveland with a vision to assist in creating an enhanced worldwide awareness, manifesting as universal peace and respect for all forms of life, the responsible use of Earth’s resources in sustainable ways, and a common realization that all is interconnected and one.

To that end, NEF invites applications for innovative projects that enhance life on our planet and brighten the future, furthering peace. The foundation will award grants in support of pioneering yet practical projects in many endeavors, including but not limited to environmental initiatives that are working to eliminate pollution and save the planet’s ecosystems; community efforts that create models of social sustainability; educational innovations that prepare youth to become the socially responsible leaders of the future; and strategies that offer economic improvement and opportunities. The foundation particularly seeks projects with the potential to be replicated so that excellent ideas and work can multiply and benefit many.

The foundation prioritizes smaller, newer 501(c)(3) organizations so the gift can make a more significant contribution to the work of the recipient organization.

Candidates must be tax-exempt as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service. Organizations without such status may apply under an umbrella organization or fiscal sponsor. However, the application must be accompanied by a letter of agreement detailing the project and the nature of the sponsoring organization’s support or involvement.

Letters of inquiry are due July 1, 2022, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by August 2022.

For complete program guidelines, application instructions, and previously supported projects, see the New Earth Foundation website.
