The Imagine Learning Foundation, the philanthropic wing of the Imagine Learning company, works to foster the well-being of learners and the people who support them at home and in their communities.

According to the foundation, schools can better develop healthy and supportive learning environments when social and emotional learning (SEL) programs are extended from classrooms into homes and communities. To that end, the foundation aims to bridge the meaningful connection between SEL in the classroom and SEL outside the classroom by facilitating access to social-emotional learning at home and in the community. By bringing SEL into life beyond the classroom, the foundation wishes to activate a learner’s full community and support system to ignite more breakthroughs in every learning environment.

The Imagine Signature Grant Program has established two funding priorities to advance this work:

Well-Being Outside the Classroom: Supports social, physical, mental, and emotional well-being programs, activities, or services that foster the learning well-being of youth, families, and educators within the home and community environments.

Education and Community Research: Studies the current impacts that social, physical, mental, and emotional well-being has on accelerating student achievement across diverse communities.

The ILF will award two $100,000 Imagine Signature Grants for one or a combination of both funding priority areas of focus. The awarded programs will be funded for up to twelve months and program start date(s) may occur between July 1, 2022, and September 30, 2022.

National organizations will be prioritized, though the ILF will accept grant applications from regional organizations. Priority will be given to organizations focused on high-need communities.

To be eligible, applicants must be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Imagine Learning website.

Deadline: April 30, 2022

The foundation will award support for up to two key personnel from the evaluation team and one practitioner or service provider from the program to attend one conference the final (or only) year of the project, with an allowable cost of $1,500 per person. Projects may span up to three years.

Applicants must be principal investigators with a nonprofit as a home institution. Applicants at all career stages may apply.

In this Spotlight Exclusive, Richmond Mayor Levar M. Stoney and Mesa Mayor John C. Giles describe how child nutrition waivers can combat childhood hunger following the pandemic. Stoney and Giles lead the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger, a nonpartisan initiative that taps the individual and collective leadership of more than 70 mayors across the country to develop and implement meaningful actions to end childhood hunger nationwide. At the beginning of the pandemic, Congress allowed the USDA to issue child nutrition waivers that enabled schools and local groups to develop creative and flexible meal programs that worked best for their communities. Stoney and Giles recently penned a letter to Congressional leadership signed by 45 other mayors to stress the importance of extending the waivers to continue the momentum in fighting childhood hunger. Without these waivers, many kids may not get the food that they need which may be detrimental to children’s physical and mental health, academic success, and future economic prosperity. “To make sure kids continue to get the food they need, Congress must authorize USDA to grant nationwide nutrition waivers as needed through the summer and the 2022-2023 school year,” say Stoney and Giles. “Feeding kids today is one of the smartest investments we can make to help them face the challenges of tomorrow.”
