Based in Fort Collins, Colorado, the Bohemian Foundation is a private family foundation that supports local, national, and global efforts to build strong communities.

To that end, the foundation has established the Bohemian Fund, a grantmaking program that combines and expands upon two previously established funds: the Pharos Fund, which focused on supporting nonprofits to build a stronger local community, and Muse, which focused on building community through music.

The new fund will support three areas: helping to ensure that all youth thrive, promoting economic stability and mobility, and cultivating a vibrant, engaged, connected, and resilient community. Applicants may request grants for program, project, or general support, and grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded to address the three shared goals and foster a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Grants awarded through Bohemian Fund will celebrate rich differences, as well as acknowledge longstanding disparities, and the fund supports organizations that value diversity and inclusion, foster belonging, and strive to advance equity.

Eligible organizations include tax-exempt organizations as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and government units working within the Poudre School District boundary.

The fall 2021 application will open on August 4 and close on September 9, 2021.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Bohemian Foundation website.

Survey data indicated that overall, mothers of children 12 and under spent an average of 8.6 hours per day on direct and secondary childcare activities. Employed mothers with children 12 and under also spent about 8.3 hours (8 hours during the weekday) per day on direct and indirect childcare and worked about 6.1 hours per weekday. Recent employment data has also shown that the pandemic has widened the labor force participation gap between mothers and fathers. As of June 2021, the labor force participation rates (LFPRs) of prime-age mothers (those aged 25-54) remains significantly below the pre-COVID level. The Hamilton Project fielded the survey in partnership with the Future of the Middle Class Initiative at the Brookings Institution.

Because of the rapid increase in cases here and around the country, and because we are seeing hospitalizations rise among children in Philadelphia, we are now strongly recommending that everyone mask while indoors in places where you do not know that everyone is vaccinated.

People who are not yet fully vaccinated should take additional precautions including avoiding crowded indoor spaces and considering double masking. In general, we recommend that you choose outdoor public places over indoors when you have the option as transmission is much less likely in outdoor settings.

The best way to protect yourself is to be fully vaccinated. Research has shown that having two doses of the Pfizer vaccine or the Moderna vaccine, both of which have been shown to be safe and effective, is more than 90% protective against the Delta variant.

Building 21 Background:

The mission of Building 21 is to empower networks of learners to connect with their passions and build agency to impact their world. Building 21 is a nonprofit organization that is reimagining secondary schooling to meet the needs of all learners. Building 21 partners with school districts to design, launch and operate innovative schools. Our schools are afforded significant flexibility and autonomy by our district partners to pursue our vision for student and adult learning. We also work with schools and districts that are making the transition to competency-based education through our Learning Innovation Network. Our mission is to create a network approach to secondary and post-secondary learning for high school age youth that fundamentally reorients the system to place the learner at the center.

Building 21 is currently looking for a passionate and experienced individual to lead our Launchpad initiative. The ideal Executive Director possesses a deep commitment to positive youth development, an unwavering faith in the potential of every student, and a strong belief in the power of innovative solutions to help young people connect with their bright futures. As part of the senior Building 21 team, the Launchpad Executive Director will lead the continued design, piloting and implementation of Project Launchpad. The Launchpad Executive Director will report to the Building 21 Co-CEO, Chip Linehan. To date, the Building 21 team has laid the groundwork for Launchpad, including the design of the high level academic program and the development of key partnerships (funders, high schools, postsecondary institutions, employers). When the Executive Director is hired, they will assume responsibility for refining the program curriculum, hiring the initial staff, and managing the day to day operations of the program. Chip will continue to lead fundraising, building and nurturing high level partnerships, and supporting the Executive Director in their work to build the program.
