Established in 1959, the Nationwide Foundation is a nonprofit, private foundation that works to improve the quality of life in communities where many Nationwide members, associates, partners, and their families live and work.

To that end, the foundation invites applications for general operating support and project and/or program support from organizations serving the following communities: Brea/Orange County, California; Columbus (metro), Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Des Moines, Iowa; Gainesville, Florida; Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Raleigh (metro), North Carolina; Sacramento, California; San Antonio, Texas; Scottsdale/Phoenix (metro), Arizona; and Wausau, Wisconsin.

The foundation has identified the following funding priorities:

Emergency and Basic Needs: Aligned with its business, the foundation aims to help in an emergency and partners with organizations that provide life’s necessities.

Crisis Stabilization: The foundation aims to partner with organizations that provide resources to help prevent crises or assist in the aftermath after one occurs.

Personal and Family Empowerment: Support for at-risk youth and families living in poverty who need tools and resources to improve their lives. The foundation aims to partner with organizations that assist individuals in becoming productive members of society.

The foundation will emphasize emergency and basic needs and crisis stabilization categories.

Applicants must serve at least one of the designated communities and be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. As a general rule, national organizations are not eligible unless the applicant is a local branch or chapter providing direct services.

TD Bank is welcoming applications for its annual North American initiative, the TD Ready Challenge, which has C$10 million ($7.9 million) in grants available to organizations developing innovative, impactful, and measurable solutions for a changing world.

According to TD Bank, the pandemic has disrupted elementary and high school education across North America. The transition to alternative ways of teaching has created challenges for both students and teachers due to uneven implementation and unequal access to technology. To remedy this, the challenge invites applications focused on addressing predicted learning loss in math and reading for disproportionately impacted students in grades K-12 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is a preference for programs that support disproportionately impacted students experiencing learning loss as a result of COVID-19 due to factors such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and geographic location; that have wide demographic or geographical reach in areas where TD operates (all of Canada and specific states in the U.S. (map and listing of eligible US states found here); and that will use the grant to scale and/or replicate solutions to additional communities or populations (or pilot projects with material evidence of viable success and scalability).

Organizations may apply for grants ranging from C$375,000 up to C$1 million for Canadian organizations or $325,000 to $1 million for U.S. organizations.

To be eligible, organizations must be Canadian registered or incorporated charities and nonprofits or U.S. charitable, nonprofit organizations as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code.

Pennie has completed the first phase of implementing the American Rescue Plan. In many cases, Pennie customers will see significant savings under the new law.

Here’s what that means for you:

• Pennsylvanians who need health insurance can see all the new savings they qualify for by creating an application on Pennie.com.
• Current Pennie customers can edit and resubmit their application to see their new eligibility for advance premium tax credits applied to their account.
• Pennsylvania taxpayers eligible for unemployment compensation in 2021 can check a box within the Pennie application to receive the maximum levels of advance premium tax credits and cost sharing reductions afforded to them under the American Rescue Plan.

GivingTuesday welcomes applications for the Starling Collective, a global learning community and innovative fellowship designed to identify creative, passionate leaders who are working to accelerate innovative approaches to catalyzing generosity, empathy, equity, and justice.

The program welcomes applications from innovators of all backgrounds, and is specifically designed for grassroots organizers, activists, artists, and changemakers from under-represented and under-resourced communities. Selected participants will engage in a six-month peer learning community to share what’s working, what’s not; gain access to coaching, peer support, and movement-building tools and resources; receive a $2,000 microgrant in support of leadership development or on-the-ground work; and have the opportunity to present ideas or initiatives for a chance to receive additional funding with which to grow and launch new ideas and scale positive impact in the community.

To be eligible, applicants must be over the age of 13 in the United States or the equivalent legal age to participate in the program in their home country. If accepted, applicants under the age of 18 must have the permission of a parent or guardian to participate in and receive any fellowship payments. Applicants must be legally permitted to receive and accept funds from a U.S. nonprofit organization.

To that end, the fund invites applications for its Teacher Diversity funding opportunity. Through the program, one-year grants of between $150,000 and $250,000 will be awarded in support of innovative approaches to advancing educator diversity and retaining and supporting AAPI, BIPOC, and Latino/Latinx teachers, so they remain in the field longer. After a year, ventures will become eligible for additional support. In addition, awardees will receive management assistance, including access to relevant, timely, and customized support from the NewSchools team and external experts as well as opportunities to build relationships with and learn from other leaders focused on teacher diversity.

While the fund will prioritize investing in early-stage organizations (up to two years old), it will also invest in new initiatives (up to two years old) at existing organizations. AAPI, BIPOC, and Latino/Latinx leaders are highly encouraged to apply.

The Connecticut Public Health College Corps program is training about 110 students from across the state in topics including vaccine knowledge and communication strategies, motivations and persuasion in storytelling, and active listening before embedding them in four-week placements with local public health departments in nine cities.

Students are completing a week of virtual training taught by a cross-disciplinary group of Quinnipiac faculty with expertise in biomedical sciences, communication and social work before beginning their work in the communities next week. Students will receive a $2,750 stipend for their participation in the program, which is being funded by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Its recently released annual report, The State of Black America, lays out “three pandemics” that devastated communities of color in 2020-21: racial inequity in the economy, health care, and public safety. Yet the report also outlines ways forward, including for higher education.

“The report is a call to action,” said NUL president Marc H. Morial in an interview with Diverse. “To take the momentum, the energy, the determination of 2020, which we saw in the streets, we saw in the suites, we saw in the ballot boxes, and convert that energy into an effort to attack structural and institutional racism for a new, inclusive normal.”

With research partners at the Brookings Institution, the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity, and the Center for Policing, NUL’s publicly available report analyzes how COVID-19, police violence, and an economic crisis amplified underlying structural racism.

The March 2020 shift from face-to-face classes to what many call “Zoom University” was triage for faculty and administrators accustomed to being in the same room as their students. The cobbled-together approach could be compared to building an airplane while it’s flying.

The pivot to emergency remote learning differed greatly from what is considered high-quality online education, said Deb Adair, executive director of Quality Matters, a nonprofit that seeks to measure and guarantee quality in online courses. Top-notch online education requires planning the entire course before it runs; laying out materials and defining learning objectives; and ensuring accessibility for all students, she said.

“That is a lot of work that’s done before the class even starts; there was no way that institutions could get that done in the week or two weeks that they had before they had to move everything online,” Adair said.

Though the pandemic forced colleges to make adaptations on the fly, those moves almost certainly provided a “sneak preview of higher education’s future,” according to a new report from the progressive think tank New America.

The report, “Back to Basics: Quality in Digital Learning,” highlights successes and failures of the past 17 months and makes policy recommendations for how to make high-quality online education more accessible in the future, even as many students return to physical classrooms.

The 2021 Child Tax Credit provides a historic lifeline to millions of families across the country at a time when they need it most. Your efforts to ensure that families are enrolled are key to making sure that money is not left on the table.

While most eligible families will automatically receive the monthly advance payments, others still need to sign-up. The good news is that it’s not too late. Navigators are trusted, community-based partners that can help eligible individuals access these funds.

This training, co-hosted by CEO, Community Legal Services, and Campaign for Working Families, will empower you to become a CTC navigator in your community. The training will:

• Show you how to determine if someone should use the non-filer form,
• Show you how to complete the nonfiler form,
• Share resources for more complex situations,
• And help address other barriers.

We believe in the important role and impact of young leaders in our movement. This is why PICC has continued to engage immigrant youth from across the state in advocacy, provided support and direct leadership development! In order to ensure that youth voices are at the core of the immigrant rights movement and decision making PICC has developed Youth Membership Initiative and continued to host our annual Summer Immigrant and Refugee Leadership Youth Convening.

Our convening will bring together immigrant youth that originate from different walks of life across PA. During the weekend, attendees are able to share their stories and develop leadership skills, organizing skills, and have a chance to build relationships with other youth who share similar experience and goals.

This event is open to immigrant, refugees and children of immigrants ages 14-24 years old living in Pennsylvania.
