<div><span>The mission of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine is to advance the progress of medicine, improve public health by providing U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information, and improve individuals’ access to information that helps them make informed decisions about their health. Under a cooperative agreement with the National Library of Medicine, the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Library System serves as the regional medical library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region (NNLM MAR).</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>NNLM MAR currently is inviting applications from community-based organizations (CBOs) to support health programming in public libraries. <div></div>
<div><span>Through the program, grants of up to $19,500 will be awarded to organizations that offer existing health programming to the public in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Proposals must include the use existing high-quality health programming that can be adapted for public library audiences (the award does not support the development of new programs); a submission of sample program materials for review for applicability and quality; and outline the organization’s ability to complete at least six in-person programs at two or more public libraries in their area between October 2019 and April 2020. </span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>NNLM MAR staff will work with funded programs to integrate relevant health information and NIH All of Us Research Program content into their programs and to assist them with making connections with local public libraries. Efforts will be made to fund programs across the region that have the potential to reach populations that are underserved by research.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>To be eligible, applicants must be a community-based organization with 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code and be member of NNLM. Membership is free and open to any organization that provides or promotes health information. Awards are cost-reimbursable and are issued to the institution and not an individual.</span></div>

<div><span>The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is inviting applications for its 2020 Culture of Health Prize. The program is designed to elevate the compelling stories of community members who are working to transform neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and more — so that the opportunity for better health flourishes for all.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>The prize celebrates what communities have done as well as how they have done it. In Phase 1 of the application process, communities are encouraged to showcase the breadth of work and collaboration happening across the entire community and across sectors. The prize recognizes work that has already been accomplished, so there is no required workplan, budget, or reporting. Community accomplishments may be an individual policy, program, or strategy, or an integrated or closely-related collection of policies, programs, or strategies. Taken together, community accomplishments should reflect work that goes beyond any single intervention and showcases progress toward better health, opportunity, and equity. Applicants should describe how each accomplishment relates to identified community challenges and how it may impact historically excluded populations or geographic areas in the community.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>Through the program, up to ten winning communities will receive a $25,000 cash prize; customized communications materials about their community, including videos, photos, and stories captured by journalists and other communications professionals; strategic communications guidance leading up to, during, and in follow-up to the prize winner announcement; national and local promotion of their stories and successes, including outreach to media, policy makers, and networks of organizations; and opportunities to interact with and learn from other national and local leaders working to build a Culture of Health, including past prize winners through the prize alumni network. </span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>Applicant communities that win a grant will be required to designate a local U.S. governmental entity or tax-exempt public charity operating in its community to accept the $25,000 cash prize on their behalf. Community partners can decide together how to use the funds to benefit the community; budget reports on prize expenditures are not required.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>To be eligible to apply for a prize, a community must be a geographically-defined jurisdiction in the United States that falls into one of the following categories: county, parish, borough, city, town, village, or other municipality with a publicly elected governing body; federally recognized tribe or a state-designated Indian reservation; Native Hawaiian organization serving and representing the interests of Native Hawaiians in Hawaii; or a region defined as geographically contiguous municipalities, counties, and/or reservations. Neighborhoods and states are not eligible to apply.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>Application involves a three-phase process. Phase I applications are due November 4, 2019. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit Phase II applications by January 16, 2020. Site visits will be conducted in Phase III for semi-finalist communities in April &#8211; May 2020.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>RWJF will be hosting a Culture of Health Prize Phase I informational webinar on September 24, 2019.</span></div>
<div><span>See the RWJF website for complete program guidelines, application instructions, and to register for the informational webinar.</span></div>
<div></div>

<div></div>
<div><span>The program seeks to ensure that arts organizations in the greater Philadelphia area have the flexibility to try new ideas, offset their expenses, and support their operations. To that end, the program provides general operating funds to organizations that present high-quality artistic work with the aim of contributing to a rich, creative cultural landscape regionally.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>Through the program, three-year grants will be awarded to arts and cultural organizations located in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in southeastern Pennsylvania or Camden, New Jersey that have been in operation for more than five consecutive years. Funding may be used for any purpose that advances the mission of the organization, as determined by the grantee organization.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>Grant amounts are determined by organizational budget size, with grants of up to $275,000 per year awarded to organizations with annual budgets of $17.5 million and above. Additional funding of 25 percent may be added to the annual grant amount when an organization has three or more months of liquid unrestricted net assets at the end of its last fiscal year and unrestricted net operating surpluses that total no less than 5 percent of expenses for the last two fiscal years.</span></div>
<div></div>
<div><span>To be eligible, applicants must be able to provide an audit or, at minimum, an accountant&#8217;s review for the five most recent fiscal years and be located in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in southeastern Pennsylvania or Camden, New Jersey.</span></div>

Our &#8220;signature&#8221; program is Girls in Science &amp; Technology, an innovative ten-week, hands-on science program for girls in grades 3 -12. The classes are conducted by female college students majoring in STEM disciplines who are in turn overseen and advised by scientists drawn from academe and the corporate world.</p>
<p>We are currently looking for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in STEM disciplines to join our team. <a href="http://americanhelicopter.museum/programs/girls-in-science-and-technology-program">Click here</a> for more information. <a href="https://forms.gle/j7jkf4KZfnCKnHbv6">Click here</a> to register as a volunteer. This is a paid position.</p>
<p>We also conduct workshops in chemistry, astronomy, robotics, and coding for girls and boys ages 7 -12. We are looking to hire or recruit volunteers who can conduct these workshops. The ideal would be someone who would work as a contractor &#8211; help us develop the curriculum and then conduct the workshops. We do each workshop approximately 5 times/year, so this has the chance of being a decent &#8220;side hustle&#8221; for the right person. If you know of any students (or colleagues!) who might be interested, please contact Contact JoEllen McBride (<a href="mailto:jmcbride@americanhelicopter.museum">jmcbride@americanhelicopter.museum</a>) or Paul Kahan (<a href="mailto:pkahan@americanhelicopter.museum">pkahan@americanhelicopter.museum</a>).</p>
<p>Lastly, we are starting Science Saturdays at the Museum. If you have any students or colleagues with fun, engaging science demonstrations geared for the public, we’d love to have them come perform at the Museum. A link to Science Saturday signups can be found <a href="https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E4DAFAA28A0FA7-science">here</a>.</p>
