<p>The $2 million Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize is the largest annual humanitarian award presented to a nonprofit organization judged to have made extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering. The prize is not only intended to recognize and advance the efforts of the recipient organization but also to call attention to the worldwide need for humanitarian aid and to encourage others to expand their support.</p>
<p>To be eligible for the prize, nominees must be an established, nongovernmental, publicly supported charitable organizations (not an individual with tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code (or the equivalent for international organizations; international nominees will be contacted by the foundation for appropriate documentation); have been legally established for at least five years and have audited financial statements for at least five years; and have expenditures greater than. $750,000 in their most recent audited fiscal year of operation. (It is strongly encouraged that if a nominee has multiple branch offices the umbrella organization be the nominee.)</p>
<p>To be eligible to nominate an organization, the nominator should have direct knowledge of the nominated organization’s work and not be an officer or employee of (or any other individual receiving remuneration for his or her services from) the nominated organization; a founder or family member of an officer or employee of the nominated organization; a Conrad N. Hilton Foundation employee, board member, prize juror, or a family member of a foundation employee, board member, or prize juror; and/or a Hilton family member.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>GHR Foundation and OpenIDEO Launch Third BridgeBuilder to Identify Ideas to Help Migrants, Refugees, and Displaced People</p>
<p>In collaboration with open innovation platform OpenIDEO, the Minneapolis-based GHR Foundation has launched its third annual BridgeBuilder&#x2122; competition, through which it will award $1 million to the best ideas that address urgent global issues in radically new ways.</p>
<p>This year, BridgeBuilder launches in response to the more than 70.8 million men, women and children who are currently forcibly displaced worldwide. With more people on the move today than in the past seventy years, and with women and children disproportionately impacted, the 2019 Challenge invites social innovators and currently or previously displaced persons to design approaches that enable individuals to create a life of meaning filled with hope and dignity, and to support host communities in being their most welcoming.</p>
<p>Entrants are requested to consider the following question: How might we, as people on the move and neighbors, build bridges to a shared future of stability and promise?</p>
<p>Selected top ideas will receive a share of $1 million in seed funding from the GHR Foundation; join a BridgeBuilder cohort of innovative organizations working to address urgent needs; take part in a kick-off workshop, during which they will meet other social innovators and further design and build their approaches with tools and expertise from GHR and OpenIDEO; and receive ongoing partnership support from GHR, potential connection to other funder networks, and media exposure</p>
<p>Ideas are invited from individuals and teams currently or previously experiencing displacement as well as registered nonprofit, civil society, community-based, and for-profit organizations working anywhere in the world. The idea must be actionable and build tangible results in the community of focus, rather than research, convenings, policy development, or advocacy; be implemented within a thirty-six-month timeline and within a budget of up to $200,000; and show evidence that the voice and perspective of a person currently or previously experiencing displacement is part of the ideation, process, and project.</p>
<p>The window for submissions is open from July 2 to August 17, with “top ideas” announced in mid-November following a refinement process using human-centered design. Top ideas will each receive a share of $1 million in seed funding from GHR Foundation and will join a cohort of innovative organizations working to address urgent needs.</p>

<p>The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Foundation invites Letters of Intent for projects with potential to make a substantial difference in the lives of incarcerated men and women after they have completed their sentences.</p>
<p>The significant impediments that incarcerated men and women face as they attempt to re-start their lives and re-join their communities have been well-documented and include the requirements of the parole and probation systems, legal barriers to the restoration of voting and other civil rights, challenges with mental health, substance abuse, jobs, transportation, and housing.</p>
<p>To that end, the Rapoport Foundation is inviting LOIs for hands-on projects that experiment with new approaches to improving the success of formerly incarcerated men and women, including projects that take place in jail/prison, after incarceration, or both. Single or multi-year proposals for up to $200,000 will be supported, including research that examines the efficacy of current practices, projects expected to have an immediate impact, and those with potential for future impact by advancing knowledge or advocacy that challenges unfair or ineffective laws or practices. Projects may address a broad, integrated cluster of challenges, or a targeted objective, including but not limited to jobs, education, mental health, transportation, or the unique needs of women (ex-)prisoners.</p>
<p>To be eligible, applicants must be tax exempt as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.</p>
<p>Letters of Intent are due August 15, 2019. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.</p>

<p>The WITH Foundation, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, and Ability Central have issued a request for proposals for its Enhancing the Resources, Programmatic Efforts, and/or Advocacy Regarding Supported Decision-Making for Adults who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) program.</p>
<p>Supported Decision-Making (SDM) allows people to obtain guidance and support without relinquishing their legal right to make personal choices about their lives. Using supported decision-making, a person with a disability selects a person or a team of trusted people to help understand, make, and communicate their decisions. The individual may rely heavily on their supporters when making choices, but the final decision ultimately remains within their control. Supported decision-making is a flexible process; as the person gains experience, the areas in which they seek support and the people who they choose to support them may change.</p>
<p>With a goal to promote innovation in the use of supported decision-making within healthcare settings and beyond, the foundation is inviting collaborative proposals focused on the development of additional resources, programmatic models, and/or advocacy related to Supported Decision-Making (SDM) for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Proposals should use one of the following approaches:</p>
<p>Educational materials and/or process development — the development of additional educational resources and/or process information related to SDM.</p>
<p>Place-based Implementation — place-based implementation of SDM models (i.e., projects that support the implementation of supported decision-making within a specific healthcare institution or system, community organization, etc.).</p>
<p>Advocacy — local, regional, or national advocacy related to SDM.</p>
<p>The foundation encourages the development of new partnerships between community, healthcare, disability, and/or UCEDD, and LEND programs. If the proposed project includes organizations that have an established/existing partnership(s), the proposed project should include significant and new efforts undertaken by the partnership and/or new partners joining the existing collaborative effort.</p>
<p>At least four one-year grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded, with two to nonprofits located in California and at least two located outside California.</p>
<p>A conference call will be held on Thursday, August 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PDT to answer any questions pertaining to the project design and/or application process. The call-in phone number is 866-317-5076 (no passcode required).</p>

<p>1) Early Childhood Welfare: Children can only reach their full potential when all aspects of their development are supported. Because providing a safe and nurturing environment is essential, the foundation supports projects that advance child-rearing practices and identify models that can provide creative, caring environments in which young children thrive.</p>
<p>2) Early Childhood Education and Play: Research shows that for children to succeed in school and work, they need to be stimulated as well as nurtured early in life. Because that kind of preparation relates to every aspect of a child’s development, from birth to age seven, and everywhere a child learns — at home, in childcare settings, and in preschool — the foundation seeks to improve the quality of both early childhood teaching and learning through the development of innovative curricula and research based on pedagogical standards, as well as the design of imaginative play materials and learning environments.</p>
<p>3) Parenting Education: To help parents create nurturing environments for their children, the foundation supports programs that teach parents about developmental psychology, cultural child rearing differences, pedagogy, issues of health, prenatal care and diet, as well programs that provide both cognitive and emotional support to parents.</p>
<p>Letters of Intent must be received no later than September 30, 2019. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.</p>

<p><strong><u>JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:</u></strong></p>

<li>Manage the SOAR program managers/coordinators</li>
<li>Provide day-to-day supervision of all aspects of the SOAR reentry program.</li>
<li>Provides oversight/compliance of case management, vocational/educational training, and job placement services.</li>
<li>Conduct visits at sub-grantee</li>
<li>Develops and facilitates a strategy for employer engagement</li>
<li>Refine the SOAR model and identify fundable components</li>
<li>Review and oversee the implementation and administration of all contracts and performance documentations</li>
<li>Review the FOA and proposal and articulate program goals and objectives to the team.</li>
<li>Use OICA’s standard progress and outcome monitoring template to monitor project performance</li>
<li>Coordinate staff activities to ensure all program objectives and outcomes are met and the program receive the appropriate support from the cross discipline team</li>
<li>Review monthly reports of program activities and give feedback to sub-grantees</li>
<li>Write, review and submit quarterly performance report to DOL</li>
<li>Participate in monthly leadership team meetings to capture best practices and “on the ground” learning to improve the delivery of the program</li>
<li>Implement training series via webinars, in-person sessions and other creative means</li>
<li>Coordinate and facilitate trainings</li>
<li>Create a blue print and structure for SOAR trainings at the direction of the supervisor</li>
<li>Carry our other responsibility as directed by supervisor</li>

<p>That’s the number of criminal charges in Pennsylvania that are now eligible for automatic sealing due to the second phase of the state’s Clean Slate law which began Friday, June 28, 2019.</p>
<p>While law enforcement will still be able to pull up arrests and convictions, the public — including landlords and most employers — will not. They’ll be hidden — as if they never happened, potentially giving thousands of Pennsylvania residents a second chance.</p>
<p>The law applies to non-convictions, summary offenses, and most nonviolent misdemeanor convictions, including drunk driving, shoplifting and prostitution.</p>
<p>When Clean Slate took effect in December, residents with those kinds of records needed to hire lawyers and go to court to get them sealed. Starting Friday, the automation process can start once a judge signs off on a batch of eligible charges.</p>
<p>“It’s the first day in the history of the United States that records will be sealed by automation. And it is quite possible that, in the first week, more cases will be sealed by automation than have ever been sealed in the entire history of the United States,” said Sharon Dietrich, litigation director at Community Legal Services, the nonprofit that helped craft Clean Slate, which garnered overwhelming bipartisan support in the General Assembly.</p>
<p>Non-convictions can be sealed after 60 days; convictions after a decade, as long as another crime has not been committed since. All court fines and fees also have to be paid in full.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>YWCA Tri-County Area recruiting for AmeriCorps DAWN program</p>
<p>Adult learners will have opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge related to employment through a partnership between YWCA Tri-County Area and AmeriCorps-Corporation for National and Community Service.</p>
<p>Scheduled to begin in August 2019, AmeriCorps DAWN (Dignified Advancement Workforce Navigation) members will work with adult learners and/or opportunity youth in 1-on-1 settings. AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs aimed at improving lives and fostering civic engagement. AmeriCorps members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more.</p>
<p>AmeriCorps DAWN will address and resolve community&#8217;s high rate of poverty and underemployment in our area by increasing job readiness skills. There are pockets of Montgomery County, specifically in Pottstown and Norristown, that experience higher percentages of families living in poverty than the county average. Both Pottstown and Norristown poverty rates – 22% according to 2018 U.S. Census estimate &#8211; are 5 times the county average of 4%.</p>
<p>AmeriCorps DAWN’s structure is based on the PA Department of Human Service&#8217;s theory of increased success within employment and training: Success is not just about getting someone a job, but instead is about empowering them to develop tools and skills needed to attain self-reliance. This shift, from focusing on placement to long-term success, addressing barriers, and prioritizing long-term goals, will equip clients with the skills needed to achieve family-sustaining jobs.</p>

New this year: organization&#8217;s interested in applying must submit a Letter of Intent through our online grant portal by July 26, 2019. The Letter of Intent application will be open here on Friday, June 28, 2019. Organizations that submit Letters of Intent will be notified on August 19, 2019 if a proposal is welcome. Invited proposals will be due on-line Oct. 14, 2019 and grant awards will be announced on March 26, 2020.</p>
