We also provide Summer Book Camps and Words on Wheels – our free book delivery program that helps area families build their home libraries.

On November 6, 2014, we will be hosting our 4th Annual Life with Books Reception — It is a fundraiser in the form of a cocktail reception. It will take place at the WHYY Studios in the Old City section of Philadelphia, and we are anticipating 300 guests. This is going to be a great event that will highlight the remarkable work that our students and their families are doing to transform community through education and creative expression.

We are looking for sponsors to help offset the cost of hosting the fundraiser and also to help support our programs.

“The Miquon School treasures and celebrates childhood. We give our students time to play and grow. Our program and our environment encourage wonder, inquiry, independence, and discovery. We seek to create confident, life‐long learners who will
move out into the wider world with strong academic and social skills, intense personal interests, a love for the arts, and a commitment to building inclusive and peaceful communities. We are dedicated to learning together in the rich tradition of Progressive education that is our founders’ legacy.” – The Miquon School Mission Statement

The Opportunity

The Miquon School is a progressive elementary school with a deep sense of its mission and a strong vision for its future. Since its founding in 1932 in the progressive tradition of John Dewey, Miquon continues to be guided by a Board of Directors comprising parents, alumni, teaching staff, and external community members. It is located not far from downtown Philadelphia in nearby Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

Miquon provides a rich and exciting environment for approximately 150 students from age three through sixth grade. Miquon is dedicated to preserving childhood, using innovative student‐centered teaching practices, maintaining a diverse community, and developing children’s knowledge of and appreciation for the environment. Time spent outside on the school’s 10‐acre campus, which includes woods, fields, and a creek, is an integral part of every child’s Miquon experience. Miquon values independent thinking, varied individual and collaborative approaches to learning, authentic assessment methods, and creative, child‐focused approaches to curriculum development. Miquon children are notable for their self‐awareness, robust identities, and resilience, with attention to issues of environmental stewardship, inclusivity, and peace.

The Board of Directors has launched a search for Miquon’s next Head of School, with an expected start date of July 1, 2015. The Head will be an educator committed to fostering children’s learning through developmentally‐based play, discovery, and inquiry. She or he will have a track record of leading a progressive educational program and will partner with the faculty to ensure that discussions of critical educational issues, curriculum, and pedagogy are dynamic and engaging. The next Head will serve as an inspirational role model to the children and will engage fully in the School. She or he will ensure the School meets its commitment to nurturing the ideal that every child is a thinker, creator, and contributor, and to creating a foundation for lifelong learning.
