West Mt. Airy Neighbors (WMAN), the community association for the West Mt. Airy neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is seeking a new Executive Director. The mission of WMAN is to serve as a community-based volunteer organization committed to preserving and enhancing the quality of life in its richly diverse urban neighborhood.

WMAN was founded in 1959 to create and sustain West Mt. Airy as a racially integrated community. From the beginning, WMAN has sought to make its community a welcoming home for all people. To this day, West Mt. Airy remains one of the few stable, racially integrated communities in the United States.

WMAN provides a community forum for: community problem solving, communications, volunteers to organize for community improvement; and neighbor input into proposed development.

WMAN is seeking an Executive Director to work with the West Mt. Airy community and its Board of Directors in efforts to build a strong self-sustaining nonprofit community organization.

The Executive Director is the Chief Operating Officer of WMAN. The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board and serves as a non-voting staff member to board meetings.

The chief responsibilities of the Executive Director are:
• To work with the Board to set the strategic direction of WMAN and redefine the role of the Executive Director in light of the strategic plan. Assure that WMAN has a long-range strategy that achieves its vision, mission, and goals.
• Serve as the spokesperson for and represent WMAN publicly at meetings and forums, as needed; enhance its visibility in the community; and, educate the community about WMAN’s mission.
• Cultivate new and maintain/strengthen existing relationships on behalf of WMAN with other organizations, city agencies, members, the general public, media, governmental officials and other important stakeholders.
• Manage the annual operating budget and organizational finances ensuring the financial stability of the organization and overseeing all aspects of resource development, with assistance from the Board and the Finance Committee.
• Increase volunteer participation by fostering diverse community representation.
• Increase corporate support, grant funding, and individual memberships and donations, and build relationships with existing and potential corporate and community sponsors.
• Ensure planning and execution of quality programming and events.
• Manage day to day office operations and human resources of the organization.
• Prioritize initiatives and effort to ensure maximum impact with reasonable time and resources including balancing personal commitment.
• Perform other relevant duties as needed and defined by WMAN.

A B.A./B.S. is required. Experience in community organizing, non-profit management, or related field is
desirable.

This position requires attendance at community meetings and events on evenings and weekends in Northwest Philadelphia. Thus, reliable transportation is required.

Through the Nonprofit Board Leadership Institute (NBLI), in partnership with The Philadelphia Foundation, we provide collaborative training for local nonprofit board chairs alongside their executive directors. The NBLI was developed in response to United Way-conducted research which found that nonprofit board chairs and executive directors were eager for joint learning opportunities that, until now, simply were not available.

Through the NBLI, leaders are provided with the knowledge, tools and support they need to continue to build their skills, ensuring they are prepared to effectively lead the organizations they serve. The four-session institute focuses on cultivating the relationship between the executive director and board chair, financial sustainability, fund development, organizational assessment and helping leaders understand how they can help their organizations be more impactful.

This learning opportunity is available to select nonprofit organizations with annual budgets between $1 – $5 million. Participating organizations will also have the opportunity to apply for capacity building grants to support the implementation of key learnings from the NBLI.

This five-day course, taught by Federal Reserve economic education specialists and staff from the state centers for economic education, covers money, banking, and the Federal Reserve System. It includes grade-level specific breakout sessions aimed at providing teachers with lessons plans that can be implemented right away in their classrooms. The course includes sessions on the history of central banking and a visit to the sites of early central banking, which are part of Independence National Historical Park. Emphasis is placed on active- and collaborative-learning teaching methods and curricula for teaching money and banking in the K-12 classroom. The content covered in this course can be used to meet Pennsylvania and national standards in social studies, economics, and business education as well as the Common Core State Standards. Participants will receive 30 hours of Act 48 credit, breakfast and lunch daily, and all curriculum resources.

The Valentine Foundation is accepting applications from organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area for the Valentine Fund for Visionary Leadership, an endowment fund that provides support for leadership training for women executives in the nonprofit sector.

Up to five grants totaling up to $25,000 will be awarded to organizations working to improve the lives of women and girls in the region by making current women leaders more effective, developing the next generation of women leaders, and fostering a community of women leaders.

To be eligible, organizations must be considered tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and have a paid staff operating in southeastern Pennsylvania with a primary focus benefiting women and/or girls through direct service, advocacy, public policy, and/or capacity building.

Founded in 1987, the mission of RedRover is to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the bond between people and animals through emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance, and education.

In cooperation with Sheltering Animals and Families Together, RedRover is accepting applications from emergency shelter organizations to help victims of domestic violence and their animal companions stay together during times of crisis.

A limited number of RedRover Domestic Violence Safe Housing grants of up to $3,000 each will be awarded to shelter organizations to support the creation of temporary housing space for pets of victims of domestic violence. The one-time grants are intended as start-up funding to initiate projects. It is expected that the funds will enable the housing of at least one pet within a year of the project’s completion.

To be eligible, organizations must be recognized as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In addition, applicants must be organizations with a primary mission of sheltering victims of domestic violence

DREAM Summer Camp Coordinators work on a team to organize a summer full of fun, adventure and exploration for youth ages 5-18 living in affordable housing communities in Philadelphia.

Background:
The OST “System of Systems” Building Project also known as “PhillyBoost” aims to integrate data from all afterschool providers in the city into a comprehensive data system that exhibits qualities of a centralized system and is also flexible enough to meet the unique needs of varied stakeholders. This comprehensive, centralized, web-based data system will be made available to all stakeholders, allowing them to record their performance toward identified outcomes, monitor program quality and make decisions driven by valuable data.

During the 2014-2015 period, the OST “System of Systems” Building Project will continue to bring additional OST provider networks into its expanding community of users utilizing the Project’s Extended Information System (EIS). Using the growing body of data collected, the Project will begin the work of analyzing citywide OST program delivery and student participation. The Project also plans to offer outcomes measurement and program assessment tools, designed by the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST), to a larger group of OST providers, beyond the 22 sites across Philadelphia that are piloting the use of these survey tools during the 2013-2014 program year. Insights gained through citywide data analysis will drive the design and implementation of plans to improve coordination and efficiency of resource allocation, support providers’ efforts to improve program quality and increase youth access to a diverse pool of OST programs.

Responsibilities:
The (AmeriCorps*VISTA) Data Coordinator under the supervision of Knowledge Manager/Data Lead will assist in the following areas:
• Assist in providing basic technical support to database end-users.
• Maintain and enhance the project’s website and contribute to writing brief articles and content targeting broader, non-technical audiences.
• Execute queries on databases (Social Solutions) to provide specific reports or respond to requests from various stakeholders, which include OST providers and other city or non-city departments.
• Assist in on-going monitoring of timely data entry by program staff to ensure data quality and accuracy.
• Assist in software training of end-users including scheduling and other related tasks.
• Actively participate in the Data work groups and related sub workgroups.
• Actively reach out to various OST providers and seek their input for meeting their data needs.

Requirements:
• Experience using databases and ability to interpret analytic information
• Excellent computer skills and advanced knowledge of MS Office products, especially Excel
• Interest in developing further analytic skills to facilitate data queries and manipulation
• Strong written communications skills
