Frankford history celebrated
Torben Jenk, co-founder of the Kensington History Project, has researched Frankford’s Globe Dye Works (1865-2005), the lives of five generations of the founders, and the cultures and social traditions of the many Frankford residents who worked there. Mr. Jenk will deliver a talk on his work on Tuesday, April 13th beginning at 7:30pm at the Historical Society of Frankford, 1507 Orthodox Street in Philadelphia.
Through the Globe Dye Works publication, Local Color – For Insiders Only (1942 – 1969), it is possible to experience an incredible visual record of the social traditions of Frankford, with stories and photos of Globe family employees, births, marriages, retirements – plus improvements made to the products and factory over the years.
The Globe Dye Archives have been donated to the Historical Society of Frankford and items from this collection will be on display. The public is invited to bring their own mementos of Globe Dye and other social traditions of Frankford to share with the audience.
Admission is free for members and $5 for others.
