Assistant Director, Pace Center

The mission of the Pace Center, Princeton’s center for civic engagement, is to integrate civic engagement with the teaching and learning mission of Princeton University by helping all members of the extended Princeton community (undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni) to identify and address issues of public concern through engaged scholarship, active citizenship, and effective public leadership for the purpose of building stronger communities and societies throughout the world.

The Pace Center connects individuals and groups with opportunities to thoughtfully address civic problems and have an impact through activities including direct volunteer service, civic action break trips, social entrepreneurship, political action, public service internships and fellowships, volunteer teaching and tutoring, and engaged learning. The Assistant Director will have responsibility for student development and programs that support learning and leadership development including oversight for training and evaluation for all Pace Center programs. In addition, the Assistant Director will work closely with on- and off-campus partners to coordinate pre-K-12 and prison-based education initiatives

Key responsibilities:

·         Oversee training, co-curricular learning, and public leadership development in cooperation with colleagues at the Pace Center. Responsible for coordinating skills and knowledge development for participants. Advise students and serve as a resource to colleagues on the educational dimensions of civic engagement projects.

·         Manage evaluation and assessment projects related to civic engagement. Provide leadership on quantitative and qualitative methods of evaluating program outcomes and the impact of participation.

·         Coordinate educational outreach initiatives including preK-12 tutoring programs, family literacy programs, urban education, and prison education initiatives.

·         Oversee opportunities for civic engagement learning and student leadership development, including Breakout Princeton, PCCV, Pace student groups, and partnerships with the residential colleges.

·         Supervise and develop the Senior Program Coordinator who manages the day-to-day aspects of these programs.

·         Work with other departments and programs to support and develop opportunities in civic engagement. Advise students as they pursue projects directed at addressing and solving public problems.

·         Monitor, develop, and share information about best practices in civic engagement learning and student development at other universities and professional associations, and collaborate with colleagues at peer institutions.

·         As a spokesperson for the Pace Center, educate students, faculty, alumni, and campus and community partners about civic engagement.

Essential qualifications:

·         Experience working in higher education; familiarity with academic culture
·         Experience with program evaluation and assessment
·         Experience teaching
·         Excellent community-building and capacity-building skills
·         Excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills
·         Excellent written and verbal communications skills and attention to detail
·         Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism and initiative
·         5-7 years professional experience
·         Graduate degree

Desired qualifications:

·         PhD in a discipline taught at Princeton
·         Experience teaching and advising at a college or university
