PROGRAM SUMMARY
Banking on Our Future (BOOF), Operation HOPE, Inc.’s premier classroom and interactive delivery system for financial instruction for youth in grades 4 through 12, was founded in April 1996. Using a growing network of trained HOPE Corps Members (Volunteers), BOOF provides inner-city youth with the tools necessary for taking control of their financial future. Specifically, BOOF instruction focuses on the history of money and banking, how to open and maintain a checking and savings account, and the importance of credit and investment in their lives. To date, Operation HOPE, Inc. has provided BOOF “hands-on” instruction to over 420,000 youth across the country at no cost to local schools, government, or the community.
In January 2010, Operation HOPE embarks upon one of its largest initiatives in the history of the organization. We are setting out to educate 5 million youth (http://www.5MK.org) by the end of 2014 through our classroom and virtual program, BOOF.org. HOPE is searching for individuals that thrive in an entrepreneurial setting, work with intensity to meet ambitious goals and faces their day-to-day work a sense of urgency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Selling the program to local entities of all sorts to establish Banking on Our Future as the premier financial literacy delivery mechanism in the defined geographic area. This program is free to schools and community based organizations but its promotion and adoption requires a traditional sales cycle.
• Establishing and managing relationships with corporations, financial institutions, networking and alumni associations, universities, political, education, and community groups for the advancement of the Banking on Our Future program.
o Establishing and maintaining working relationships with the local public schools system(s) and individual participating schools and community based organizations throughout the given market.
o Recruiting and training volunteers
• Scheduling and coordinating classroom sessions with HOPE Corps Members and teachers and/or other site contacts to conduct the Banking on Our Future program modules.
• Working with the Regional Director to establish and reach goals for ‘students reached and ‘volunteers recruited’ annually
o The Program Manager is accountable for then reaching the monthly/quarterly/annual goals and reporting to their immediate supervisor.
• Working with the Development Department to establish annual funding goals and to then identify funding sources and secure local funding.
• Managing, and in some cases establishing, a local BOOF Advisory Council and its meetings and related activity
• Coordinating activity to execute periodic Banking on Our Future Events.
• Working with the Regional Director to continually enhance program effectiveness, as BOOF becomes the premier delivery system for financial education.
• Other duties to be assigned as they arise.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (this is not a personnel management position)
• Program and Relationship management
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree
EXPERIENCE & CORE COMPETENCIES:
• Minimum 2 years work experience
• Experience in fundraising, marketing and/or sales preferred.
• Presentation Skills: the right candidate has the ability to conduct group and individual recruitment and training sessions for volunteers and for schools.
• Experience managing a volunteer program: recruiting, training and managing volunteer relationships a plus.
• Multitask Oriented – the right candidate has the ability to begin, manage and complete several projects and program relationships at one time.
• Basic computer literacy a must: minimum proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Database experience preferred.
• Professional appearance – the right candidate has a polished and professional demeanor and attire.
• Access to personal transportation that will allow them to travel within the designated market.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Program Managers are based out of an Operation HOPE, Inc. regional office (hosted by a corporate partner in most cases)
• Program Managers are provided with a computer and all other office equipment
• Program Managers are provided reimbursements for transportation and other types of necessary expenses.
