Writing Workshop Proposals Sought

Mighty Writers welcomes all kinds of imaginative workshop proposals from Philadelphia writers, playwrights, filmmakers and other artists.

Our workshop leaders plan multi-week sessions with students, engaging them throughout the writing process and leading them to a tangible finished product.

The final products can range from podcasts to chapbooks to short documentary films.

We’re currently looking at workshop proposals for elementary, middle and high school students for spring and summer 2010.

Proposals for workshops may have titles that read like the following:

• Fastbreak Writing
• Write Like a Ninja
• The Beat: Local Newswriting
• Girl Power Poetry
• Front Stoop Stories: Neighborhood Storytelling
• Comics 101

How to Apply:
How to Submit a Mighty Proposal

1. Write a detailed explanation of your course.

2. What activities will your course include? What materials will you need? How do you see the class and the students progressing?

3. How many sessions of what length will work best for the class? Mighty Writers offers two, four, and eight session workshops. Each session lasts one to two hours.

4. When would you like to teach? Please provide specific dates as well as days of the week that are best for you generally. Please be flexible! Workshops are generally are held on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.

5. What student age range are you thinking for this course? Seven to 10, 11 to 14, and 14 to 18 tend to work best.

6. How many students do you want in your class? First time workshop leaders like to start small, with eight to ten. More experienced teachers may prefer 12 to 15.

7. Decide on a final product for your workshop. An essay, short story, your own chapbook, a letter to the President, a play, a reading, and a podcast are just some ideas. All workshops at MW must have an end product.

8. Come up with a catchy title. Some past workshop titles include “Liar’s Lit,” “Girl Power Poetry,” and “Write Change!”
