Posted by University Community Collaborative on August 11, 2026
Apply now to join VOICES, POWER, and POPPYN for the 2026 to 2027 school year. The school year program is a paid internship where youth will build their collective power through civic engagement while building social-emotional and workplace skills. Students work with program staff and college mentors to identify, explore, and produce media about the issues that impact their lives and communities.
VOICES: In VOICES, students explore their individual identity and self-expression. Through the completion of a written, visual, or performance-based media project, students gain fluency to discuss social concepts and connect with others across difference. VOICES students have created zines, music videos, and podcasts that reflect their unique passions and skills.
VOICES meets Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. from September to June.
POWER: POWER students explore their social identity through media-based advocacy. The curriculum guides students through understanding social systems that impact various communities and developing strategies to promote change in their home communities. POWER students have produced short films and public service announcements to put the spotlight on stories that are often left untold.
POWER meets Wednesdays 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Fridays 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. from September to June.
POPPYN: POPPYN provides technical training in filmmaking and community-based advocacy. Students learn camera, storytelling, and editing techniques to craft a compelling narrative about the issues they care about, to provide a youth-based perspective on the issues that impact our city. POPPYN’s work has been recognized through film awards, featured in public screenings, and aired on public television.
POPPYN meets Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. from September to June.
