Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at the Free Library
Posted by Free Library of Philadelphia on May 12, 2026
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and the Free Library is excited to celebrate with engaging events all month long!
Initially founded as a week-long celebration by Congress in 1977 and amended to a full month in 1990, May is a time to honor these integral communities’ multifaceted identities, contributions, and struggles. AAPI Heritage Month isn’t just a commemoration but a declaration — a testament to the resilience, innovation, and cultural wealth of AAPI immigrants and their descendants.
Your family can observe AAPI Heritage Month with the Free Library of Philadelphia in many ways. Visit the events calendar to join the fun with activities at many of our neighborhood libraries.
