Built Environment Coordinator, Phila. Department of Public Health

Posted by City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health on March 31, 2026

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP) works to make healthy living easier for residents. We recognize that structural factors shape health; thus, we work to change systems, policies, and environments to improve health outcomes, rather than focusing exclusively on health-promoting behaviors. Our goal is to reduce the burden of chronic disease (e.g., heart disease, stroke, asthma) and injury (including gun violence) for Philadelphians across the life course. We do this through program areas in nutrition and physical activity, tobacco control, health partnerships, and injury prevention, with cross-cutting initiatives in communications, community partnerships, research and evaluation, and policy. We take a people-centered, data-driven approach to programming and policy design. We look to solutions grounded in research and build evidence with our own data. This process drives policy and environmental changes to improve health for all people.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Built Environment Coordinator will identify and implement strategies to support effective chronic disease prevention, with a focus on healthy built environments. This full-time, on-site position in CDIP’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Program (NPA) will lead and support initiatives related to improving public space, supporting active transportation, and activating and promoting public space with physical activity and social connection. This position reports to the Nutrition and Physical Activity Program Manager.
