Summer Freedom Schools Literacy Academy, 1st-3rd Graders – Apply by May 15

This year, we will be hosting in-person programming at four different school sites across Philadelphia and virtually.
- Universal Alcorn Charter School: Only 14 seats left!
- John Barry Elementary: Only 20 seats left!
- Tanner G. Duckrey: Only 13 seats left!
- William D. Kelley: 32 seats left!
- Virtual: 32 seats left!
The Center for Black Educator Development is enrolling rising 1st-3rd graders for our FREE Summer Freedom Schools Literacy Academy (FSLA) virtual and in-person programming. FSLA gives rising 1st-3rd grade scholars an opportunity to boost their literacy skills, strengthen academic confidence and experience the joyfulness of having their racial identity centered and affirmed. We’ve designed our curriculum so each young scholar experiences the warmth of belonging, joy of learning, racial pride, and academic confidence as they make leaps in literacy.
This year, we will be hosting in-person programming at four different school sites across Philadelphia and virtually:
- In-person: June 29-July 31, 2026 from 8:00am-3:30pm EST
- Virtual: June 29-July 30, 2026 from 8:00am-11:30am EST
To participate in our programming, apply now. We encourage families to apply early for FSLA as there are limited spots per grade level!
