Drexel hosts symposium on school  violence

Drexel University’s Center for the Prevention of School-Aged Violence will sponsor a symposium entitled South Philadelphia High School: Diversity, Bullying and School-Aged Violence – Challenges and Solutions, on Monday, February 1st from 6-7:30pm at Behrakis Hall on the ground floor of the Creese Student Center, 3210 Chestnut Street in University City.

Panelists include Dr. Barbara Moses, CEO of Philadelphia Mennonite High School,  Judith Stavisky, MPH, MED, National Executive Director of Friends of the Children,  Brad Baldia, Executive Director, Southeastern Philadelphia Collaborative, and Dr. Daniel Harvey, Assistant Professor and Program Director, School Counselor Program, Gwynedd-Mercy College.

The seminar will also include a presentation by a group of school-age youth, and will be broadcast live online here.

The focus will be on discussing some of the challenges which face schools such as South Philadelphia High School as well as those neighborhoods surrounding the schools, and possible solutions to those challenges.
