Summer Reads: Discover Local U.S. Reporting On Children and Families

What happens to a story after its initial publication? How can journalists extend their reach by connecting with new and diverse audiences, and equipping them to make real-world impact?
To connect journalists with audiences on a deeper level and engage communities with the issues they are impacted by, the Pulitzer Center launched the StoryReach U.S. Fellowship. This Fellowship empowers journalists to create trusted, impactful local reporting that creatively engages their key audiences.
Fellows combined their reporting experience with public engagement and outreach plans to produce journalism that goes beyond basic storytelling. Reporters engaged community members in testing for lead in their homes, gathered mothers and maternal health workers in to discuss healthcare disparities and solutions, hosted events connecting community members and policy makers, and more. This week, we’re sharing a few of those reporting projects created by StoryReach U.S. Fellows that feature underreported issues affecting children, families, and schools in regions across the country.
