Virtual Workshop: Taking Up Space: Strategies for Addressing Cissexism and Transphobia in our Families – Nov 14
Posted by Yes! on October 22, 2024
Nervous about being around family this winter holiday season? This workshop is for those of us who may wind up in spaces with community members who are less than supportive when it comes to our gender identities. Participants will engage in discussion and problem solving to develop and further strengthen strategies for self advocacy and boundaries in our families and communities. We will examine the unique systems of oppression experienced by non-binary and transgender individuals – transphobia, cisnormativity, and cisssexism – and how they intersect with other oppressive systems including racism, ableism, classism. This intersectional approach will allow us to identify effective advocacy strategies we can implement to be empowered in our families and any unsupportive spaces. This session is conversational and driven by the identified needs of the unique group of attendees. All individuals are encouraged to actively participate.
This training is interactive, using small and large group discussion. All participation is optional. The training will take place on Zoom – automatic closed captioning will be available. Please contact us at [email protected] to share any access needs. We will do our best to accommodate them.
Date and Time: Thursday, November 14, 2024, 7:00 – 8:30 PM
