Location: Philadelphia, PA (On-site at Schools 4-5 days/week)
Salary: $45,000-$48,000 | Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Reporting to: Manager, In-School Program

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI) is the largest BBBS agency in Pennsylvania and one of the largest in the nation. Our mission is to ignite the potential of youth through meaningful one-on-one mentoring relationships, working to close the mentoring gap and enrich the mentoring field.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate Lead School-Based Mentor to support and mentor 50 middle school students (grades 6-8) through individual and group sessions. Based at schools in North, West, and/or Southwest Philadelphia, the Lead Mentor will guide students in setting goals and developing social-emotional skills, fostering positive growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Youth Mentoring: Lead group (40 students) and individual (10 students) mentoring sessions during the school day, with a curriculum focused on social-emotional learning and risk avoidance.
• Youth Enrollment & Support: Collaborate with school staff to recruit, enroll, and interview participants, while keeping parents informed.
• Progress Monitoring: Track student progress, maintain attendance records, and attend weekly check-ins with the Mentoring Manager.
• Partnership Engagement: Build strong relationships with school leaders, counselors, and staff, and participate in monthly feedback sessions.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience (social work, counseling, education, etc.); Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience working in human services or educational settings, particularly with middle school students.
• Strong commitment to youth development and BBBSI’s mission of equity, inclusion, and community collaboration.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills preferred.
• Experience working with diverse communities, active listening skills, and strong relationship-building abilities.
