2010 National Green Cup Challenge

The Green Schools Alliance and National Green Cup Challenge Coordinators invite ALL schools to participate in:

The 2010 National Green Cup Challenge
Monday, January 25 to Monday, February 22

The Green Cup Challenge is the 1st and only student-driven interschool energy challenge that invites all schools to measure and reduce campus electricity use and GHG emissions. The GCC empowers students and builds community, while raising awareness about climate change and the importance of resource conservation.

In 2009, 120 public and private, day and boarding, schools across 24 states reduced their aggregated carbon emissions by 2.5 million pounds, the equivalent of taking 220 cars off the road for one year! Greening our schools is a challenge and commitment, not a competition. We hope you will join other Green Cup Challenge schools nationwide to celebrate progress, build community and to work and win together!

The Green Cup Challenge was first launched as an interschool energy challenge in 2006 at Phillips Exeter Academy, Northfield Mount Hermon and the Lawrenceville School, and joined with the Green Schools Alliance in 2007 to formally become a Green Schools Alliance program. Asking schools to measure and reduce campus electricity use and GHG emissions, the GCC builds awareness about climate change and the environment, educates the community about the importance of conservation, and encourages the participation of the entire campus.
