Online Film Screening & Discussion: The Right to Read – Jan 30
Posted by Teach Plus PA on January 23, 2024
Calling all advocates for literacy and educational equity! Join us for an engaging online screening of the award-winning documentary The Right to Read. This powerful 80-minute film shares the stories of a courageous activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.
Following the film, a powerhouse panel will discuss the implications of the film for students and teachers in Pennsylvania and how proposed legislation, HB 998 and SB 801, would help ensure all children in PA are guaranteed the right to read:
- State Senator Anthony Williams (D-Philadelphia), co-prime sponsor of SB 801
- State Representative Jason Ortitay (R-Allegheny/Washington), co-prime sponsor of HB 998
- Kristyn Kahalehoe, School District of Philadelphia teacher and Teach Plus PA Policy Fellow
- Dr. Megan Gierka, Senior Content Developer, AIM Institute for Learning & Research
Don’t miss the opportunity to join a growing movement to advance the science of reading in Pennsylvania!
