West Philadelphia Promise Corps

Promise Corps collaborates with school leaders, community members, families and youth advocates to directly support high school students in their post-secondary planning. Promise Corps exposes students to as many post-secondary options as possible, including diverse careers and college pathways, then collaboratively plans towards the most desired post-secondary plan for each unique student by role-modeling positive self-esteem, high expectations, persistence, and resilience.

Each year, Promise Corps places up to 20 full-time AmeriCorps members in schools to work one-on-one with students on post-secondary planning. For the 23-24 school year, we have members actively serving at:

  • West Philadelphia High School
  • Sayre High School
  • High School of the Future

West Philadelphia Promise Corps began in 2015 as part of a multi-site initiative working in various Promise Zones across the country.  Promise Corps became more aligned with PHENND in 2019, when the two programs submitted a joint grant application to AmeriCorps. In 2023, Promise Corps fully transitioned from a City-managed initiative to one fully under PHENND’s operational management. The relationship to PHENND has also opened doors to deeper alignment with the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at Penn. Our collective vision is a robust ecosystem of programs, resources and supports for students spanning in-school and out-of-school time, all aimed at moving young people into successful adulthood.

Promise Corps is supported by funding from AmeriCorps and the City of Philadelphia.
