National Council of Teachers of Mathematics invites applications for preK-6 classroom research

Founded in 1920, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is the world’s most extensive mathematics education organization. It aims to advocate for high-quality mathematics teaching and learning for every student.

The council invites applications for its classroom research grant preK-6. Through the program, grants of up to $6,000 will be awarded to support classroom-based research in precollege mathematics education in collaboration with college or university mathematics educators. The research must be a collaborative effort involving a college or university mathematics educator (a mathematics education researcher or a teacher of mathematics learning, teaching, or curriculum) and one or more grades preK-6 classroom teachers. The proposal may include but is not restricted to research on the following topics: curriculum development and implementation, involvement of at-risk students or students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, students thinking about a particular mathematics concept or set of concepts, the connection of mathematics to other disciplines, focused learning and teaching of mathematics with embedded use of technology, and innovative assessment or evaluation strategies.

To be eligible, the primary applicant may be either a mathematics educator or a classroom teacher currently teaching mathematics at the grades preK-6 level.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics website.

Deadline: November 1, 2023
