In-Person Workshop: The Classroom as a Community and Gathering Space – Oct 6

Posted by City of Philadelphia Office of Children and Families Adult Education on September 19, 2023

Applying principles and social science from Priya Parker’s 2018 book, The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters, participants in this session will consider how their classroom space, the learners within, and the use of the time together can be a tool for building a stronger community. In structured activities that range from the reflective to the practical, participants will examine their own “why” behind their work, weigh the responsibilities of their role as the “host” of their classroom space, and explore simple ways to create a meaningful, memorable, safe and productive classroom space for adult learners. Throughout, we will explore themes of conflict de-escalation, best practices for inclusivity, and other considerations for bringing people together in a learning space.

The workshop will take place at Parkway Central Library (1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19103) in conference room 131-132 on the first floor.

Date and Time: Friday, October 6, 2023, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
