The End Child Poverty Act Would Dramatically Reduce Poverty

A new in-depth analysis by the People’s Policy Project on the End Child Poverty Act (ECPA) shows its potential cost and effect on household income, poverty and inequality. Earlier this year, the child allowance proposal was reintroduced in Congress; however, there had been no reports on the benefits of the proposal until now. The ECPA would simplify the existing tax system by abolishing the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit. Though it would cost an estimated $270.3 billion for 2023, it would increase the net income of households by 2.5 percent and benefit 69 percent of the population, according to the analysis.
