Four “pioneers” of the modern community schools movement, Marty Blank, Ira Harkavy, Jane Quinn, and Lisa Villarreal, and a journalist, David Goodman, recently completed a book on the history, current practice, and future possibilities of community schools: The Community Schools Revolution: Building Partnerships, Transforming Lives, Advancing Democracy. It was launched in early June at the Coalition for Community Schools National Conference in Philadelphia (with some 4,700 participants).
The book can be purchased or downloaded as a pdf here.
Among other things, the book features university-assisted community schools, highlighting the importance of university-community-school partnerships in radically improving schools, neighborhoods, and higher education institutions for the better.
