Webinar: Helping Kids and Families Thrive: New Evidence on Cash Supports – Jun 13

The recent expansion of the Child Tax Credit in 2021-2022 highlighted key policy and research questions about the impact of cash on children and their families. To help inform these conversations, the Baby’s First Years (BFY) project recently released three new studies from its work — the first of its kind randomized control trial study in the United States to assess the impact of cash payments on key issues of children’s development and family well being.

Event participants will present and discuss the findings from the studies, addressing such questions as:

• What impact did the payments have on mothers’ employment?
• What impact did they have on substance use among mothers?
• What impact did payments have on infant and toddler’s cognitive, emotional, and brain development?

Beginning in 2018, the BFY project recruited a thousand mothers living with low income, shortly after they gave birth, in four metro areas around the United States and has been following up with these families annually. In this webinar, you’ll hear more about the exciting findings from these initial reports and hear from leading policy thinkers as they reflect on both the findings and their implications for policymakers.
