Successful Local Food Businesses
In early December, BALLE and the Wallace Center at Winrock International will release Community Food Enterprise: Local Success in a Global Marketplace, a multi-year study of 24 locally owned food businesses in the U.S. and abroad. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates and W.K. Kellogg Foundations, the study examines the social, environmental, and financial performance of each enterprise; reveals milestones, challenges, and strategies for replicating successes; and demonstrates how locally owned food enterprises are an increasingly critical component of local economic development and local living economies.
