Feed A Neighbor Website and Toolkit
Posted by on December 7, 2009
Every day in America children go to bed hungry. A recent hunger report reveals that 17 million households, or 14.6% of all households in America, were food insecure in 2008 and had difficulty putting enough food on the table at times during the year. In the midst of our great national abundance, this statistic is incredibly sobering.
On November 24th in a press conference call, the White House, United States Department of Agriculture and Corporation for National and Community Service launched a new United We Serve initiative, Feed A Neighbor. You can listen to the recording here.

The purpose of the Feed A Neighbor initiative is to raise public awareness of hunger issues and ask Americans to help ensure that their neighbors have access to nutritional food this winter and throughout the year. By focusing the national spotlight on hunger this holiday season, the Corporation and the USDA continue their year-round commitment to support anti-hunger programs in communities across the country.
We are directing people to Serve.gov to search for local volunteer opportunities that address hunger issues and to download an anti-hunger volunteer toolkit. The US Department of Agriculture Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships website http://www.usda.gov/partnerships provides additional resources for addressing hunger in your community.
Please help us engage more Americans in hunger issues this holiday season and beyond by directing people in your networks to the Feed A Neighbor website and encouraging them to participate and spread the word.
If you have any questions, please contact us at collaborate@usda.gov or http://www.usda.gov/partnerships
Thank you for your continued support.
