Accepting Applications: Immigrant and Refugee Wellness Academy Training – Dec 19

The City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS) is excited to launch the second pilot cohort of the DBHIDS Immigrant/Refugee Wellness Academy (IRWA).
IRWA is a free training program designed to empower and prepare Philadelphia’s multilingual/multicultural immigrants and refugees with the knowledge, resources, and tools to engage in activities that address behavioral health and intellectual disability challenges, trauma, and inequity within the immigrant and refugee community.
Applications will be accepted through December 19 with the selection process starting December 20. The program will begin January 12.
The IRWA certificate program will enhance participants’ behavioral health and intellectual disability knowledge and applicable skills. Training topics include:
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
- Trauma-informed care and wellness
- Suicide prevention
- Opioid overdose prevention and Narcan rescue
- Mental health interpretation
- Problem gambling
- Leadership and other skill-building activities
