New Report: Centering Youth in Community Violence Interventions as Part of a Comprehensive Approach to Countering Gun Violence

A new report released by The Center for American Progress (CAP) explores an alternative way to effectively address community violence and meet the needs of young people. Although youth arrests for homicide was less than eight percent in 2020, and continues to decrease, the increase in youth victims confirms a need for intervention. According to their research, a “community violence intervention (CVI) program approach” is key to stopping the current cycle of violence. The report suggests that concentrating on the role of societal conditions and public health within the community provides insight into the root causes. As the nation continues to fight the war against gun violence, the report argues that youth-focused CVI programs are integral to improving the outcome of young lives – and the entire community.
