Summer Program Instructor, Workshop School

The Workshop School, a project-based high school in West Philadelphia, operates a number of summer programs through the city’s WorkReady initiative. Students in WorkReady develop college and career-ready skills while working 120 hours in July and August.

The Workshop School’s non-profit partner, Project Based Learning Inc., is seeking a Program Instructor for a youth leadership, activism and organizing project housed at the school, serving 12-15 Workshop School students. While the specific focus of the program will be determined by the students, the overall goal will be to identify concrete, specific elements of the school that the group would like to improve, engage stakeholders, and develop strategy and plans for implementation. The project may also include physical improvements to the campus such as murals.

The Program Instructor will plan and oversee the program, including designing activities; teaching, coaching and supervising youth. They must have experience teaching and working with teenage youth. They should be adept at building relationships and community, setting and holding norms, and establishing structure and routines for the program. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are required.

This is a part-time position that will end with the conclusion of the program in August. The Program instructor will be paid for the 120 hour duration of the program, plus 10 hours of planning time, at a rate of $40 per hour.
