Recordings and Slides: Climate Collaborative Boot Camp

On May 5th & 12th, we co-hosted a Boot Camp on Stakeholder Engagement with the Climate Collaborative of Greater Philadelphia.
This two-day virtual boot camp explored the many ways companies and organizations are involving their people – from employees, customers, clients and even the broader community – in sustainability efforts and how those groups are being communicated with. These events were held in partnership with the Climate Collaborative of Greater Philadelphia, an effort of the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability.
Workshop One: What Does A Just Collaborative Region in Philadelphia Look Like?

About: Join us for an interactive workshop on how to leverage universities and anchor institutions to achieve climate justice! During this workshop participants will explore how to build a culture of collaboration around climate justice in the City of Philadelphia. Caroline Burkholder, Temple University Sustainability Manager and Christina Rosan, Associate Professor in Geography and Urban Studies at Temple University, will highlight the role of universities, other anchor institutions, non-profits, and corporations in identifying, accelerating, prioritizing, and scaling community focused climate solutions that promote racial justice and equity.
Workshop Two: Building Resilience into our Supply Chain
Presenter: Kenyatta James, Director, Philadelphia Alliance for Growth and Equity (PAGE)
About: Philadelphia Anchors for Growth and Equity (PAGE) is a partnership between the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia and more than a dozen Philadelphia-area institutions that works to increase local purchasing by large institutional buyers to grow Philadelphia businesses, strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and build wealth. Explore how climate change is driving the need for local supply chain infrastructure, how local investment can support equity and inclusion, and how to create processes that empower people making purchasing decisions from across an organization.
Workshop Three: Employee-Led and Student-Led Groups

About: Hear from corporate and university representatives about how they cultivate and support direct engagement among staff and students respectively. PECO’s Eco-Team Employee Resource Group and Swarthmore’s Presidential Sustainability Research Fellowship will be highlighted.
Workshop Four: Addressing Penn’s Air Travel Emissions: Developing the Climate Impact Offset Charge
Presenters:
Nina Morris, Sustainability Director, University of Pennsylvania
Mark Mills, Chief Procurement Officer, University of Pennsylvania
About: Roughly 10% of the University of Pennsylvania’s carbon footprint comes from Penn-related air travel. Hear why Penn worked across the institution to set its first travel sustainability policy, how the Climate Impact Offset Charge works, and what is on the horizon for creating local, verified carbon offset projects in Philadelphia.
