Windows, Mirrors & Doors: The Importance of First Nations Representation in Children’s Literature, January 27, 2022, 7:00-8:00 PM, ParentChild+ YouTube Channel.
We invite you to ParentChild+’s virtual series on representation in children’s literature, Windows, Mirrors & Doors. Join children’s book authors, storytellers, and advocates for a compelling discussion on indigenous representation in the stories children read and hear. Click here to register for this free event.
This session will be introduced by ParentChild+ site coordinator, Rose McKenney. The discussion will focus on First Nations people, highlighting the importance of all children and families learning about indigenous peoples, beliefs, and culture; the importance of indigenous children seeing themselves in the books they encounter and the stories they hear; the ways in which we can equip parents and caregivers to access these books and stories and share them with the children in their lives, and how we can all advocate for improvements in indigenous representation.
At ParentChild+, we believe representation and book selection can be a powerful step toward building a stronger, more equitable world.
