‘The 1619 Project’ Books: Resources to Guide Educators’ Exploration

We are highlighting the Penguin Random House resource guides for the new 1619 Project books. Explore this link to find:
- A teacher’s guide for Born on the Water, a picture book written in lyrical verse that chronicles the consequences of slavery and the history of Black resistance in the United States. The guide was written by Aeriale N. Johnson for grades K-8.
- A teacher’s guide for A New Origin Story, a dramatic expansion of the groundbreaking journalism in the original 1619 Project publication, including new and revised essays, poems, and stories. The guide was written by Amanda E. Vickery for grades 9-12.
- A curriculum guide designed to provide a comprehensive overview of both books and explain how they might be used to create meaningful learning for students at all grade levels. The guide was written by Pulitzer Center staff for superintendents, administrators, curriculum development specialists, and classroom teachers.
