Call for Abstracts: Rutgers Education Policy, Communities, & Social Justice Research Conference – Jan 9

EDUCATION POLICY, COMMUNITIES, & SOCIAL JUSTICE: EXPLORING THE INTERSECTIONS – Research paper presentation panels to take place via ZOOM on the afternoons of May 18, June 1, and June 15, 2022.

We are at a critical moment for education policy in the United States.

Our schools have become sites of pitched partisan battles over masking, vaccine mandates, reopening decisions and parental rights while the pandemic has worsened the impact of racial and economic inequalities and misallocation of resources.

In this moment of upheaval and change, we are broadening the framing of our annual conference beyond neoliberalism while maintaining its focus on the intersection of education policy, communities, and equity.

We welcome research abstracts on all topics that examine this nexus, including the following research areas:

• Impact of partisan politicization of public education
• Impact of COVID on public education
• Parent, teacher, and/or community education activism
• Impact of national policy and/or politics on K-12 education
• The courts and K-12 education
• Racial and economic disparities in disciplinary action, and/or special education placement and classification
• Demographic diversity of students, teachers and administrators and education outcomes
• Implications of housing discrimination and segregation on school funding
• School choice, sorting and segregation
• Racial disparities across communities in access to educational processes in education
• Education privatization and the constitutional rights of students and employees
• Schools or districts that succeed with marginalized students
• Disconnected youth
• Partnerships between teachers unions, school boards, administrators and communities to address the challenges facing public education

If you would like to present your research, please send an abstract of no more than 350 words to rutgerseducationconference@gmail.com by Sunday, January 9, 2022.

To be considered, the papers must report on empirical research and/or make a theoretical contribution. Literature reviews or research proposals will not be accepted.

Your abstract must include (1) paper title; (2) research methodology; and (3) names, affiliations, and emails for all authors.
